Hi ladies! I found out DD was breech at 40w3d (she was born via unplanned c/s later that day). Apparently, she was breech for a long time (my OB was mistaking her butt for her head at checkups). My pedi said it is common for breech babies to have hip u/s to check for hip "dislocatiion" or the ability to easily dislocate? Any of you have experience with this? What was the outcome? Pedi said DD may have to wear a harness.
Re: XP: Hip u/s for breech babies?
Our son was breech from 31 weeks on. Just as a precaution our pedi had us get an u/s of his hips at ~2 weeks old. It is kind of nerve wracking but it was good to have peace of mind that everything is OK.
We do have a friend of the family that was very reassuring that if he did have the dysplasia that it's not a huge deal--his daughter had it and wore a brace to fix it. She's 10 now and completely fine! GL!
DS was breech my whole pregnancy. His butt was mistaken for his head too! I was told he had a very firm butt that felt like a head. Umm thanks?
Anyways, he had his hip U/S done 2 weeks ago. It was very easy and quick and the pediatric radiologist who actually performed the U/S told me the results when he was finished. My DS's hips are perfect. I was told that hip dislocation is not very common, but breech babies are 3x more likely to get them than head down babies. If his results were positive, I was told that he'd have to wear a harness for between 3 months and 9 months. It keeps his legs in a frog like position while the cartilage turns to bone.
HTH and good luck!
