Re: How do you plan to share the news? (Edit wording)

  • I bought a 'Dad to be' card the other day and I plan on giving that to him with the pregnancy test at dinner. He will be really happy. Also, we have a 'Family' group on facebook and since everyone is in different states we are going to take pictures and let everyone know we are pregnant at the same time. So our family knows and not the public just yet. That will be after we directly call our parents of course.

  • Breaking the news sounds negative to me... I will share the news!

I don't know yet.  Every cycle we have gotten our hopes up and came up with a new idea as to how we were going to share with the family.  At this point, I don't know.  I'll figure it out when it is time.

    Ideas we've had:

-Onises with the grandparents favorite sports team.  (Penn State for MIL and FIL since FIL graduated from there.  Notre Dame for my mom and step-dad since my step-dad is a huge fan and my mom works there.)

-Grandparents picture frame with baby's first picture (ultra sound of course)

-Send the fruit that the baby is the size of at week 12-14 or whatever and say, "your grandchild is this big"

I can't think of the others at the moment.

Began TTC #1 in January 2011
Confirmation and Removal of Endo - March 2012
    +#1 on 4/1/12 - m/c @ ~8w 5d
    +#2 Tx cycle 4 - 5 mg Letrozole + 75iu Follsitim & Ovidrel w/ IUI on 11/13/12 - EDD 7/23/13
7 week u/s revealed THREE babies, all with heartbeats.  153bpm, 148bpm, and 136bpm
    9 week u/s revealed loss of Baby B.  A and C are growing on track.  A measuring 9w1d with 172bpm and C measuring 9w0d with 179 bpm.
Elective sex determination u/s on 2/8 revealed... boy AND girl!

  • I probably won't do anything creative for DH since when the time comes I usually POAS in the morning before he leaves for work.

As for family/friends I don't plan on telling them until I'm closer to 2nd tri. DH and I can use that time to plan a way to tell them.

Okay, this is ridiculous.  Yes, PinkLadyJz has said some crazy stuff, and we've given her a hard time for those things, but this is not one of them. A lot of women buy stuff before they get a BFP that can be used in the telling of the news. Get over it.

And Meg: What a cute idea with the fruit thing! I know we see these posts a lot but I don't think I've ever seen that idea thrown out. Cute!

I bought a onsie BEFORE I got my BFP with my DS and gave it to my Dh at dinner. I will do something similar this time around and find a onsie that says "Big Brother."

Yes, but this is from the woman who thought she was implanting at 5dpo because she had a temp dip. Come on! Don't feed the troll.

I asked if it was possible to implant as early as 5DPO. This is my first month TTC and it was a question.

I saw a cute onesie that said "Night Owl" on it.  I always joke with DH because he is a late night person and I am an early morning person, so I thought it would be fun to give it to him and tell him that he will have someone to join him for the all-nighters. :)  Not anticipating being able to use it in the near future, but keeping my fingers crossed nonetheless. :)

  • I had the idea a long time ago to get a bunch of 'oh no, we're pregnant' movies like nine months, fools rush in, saved! (ok,not that one, but I love that movie), father of the bride 2 etc...and have a movie night no man would actually want to sit through, and see if he caught on..after 16 cycles, Im not up for that anymore. Now if I get a bfp.. I will be excited and tell him first thing. I would probably tell my mom and sisters right away ( or a week or so after ) and everyone else when Im closer to a my 2nd tri.

  • DH wants me to just tell him... which I will probably do for the most part. But IF we get pregnant the first try.... the testing window will be around Christmas. IF I get a BFP I want to wrap the pee stick up and give it to him for Christmas... I thought that might be a cute way of doing it. Other than that (unless its near an anniversary, Bday or special occasion where presents are given) I will probably just tell him. As for our parents, I have always imagined giving them something with the words Grammpa and Grampa on it.The fruit idea is cute though.

  • My husband and I plan to:

Ask our family to get together for a picture (we just bought a house and we are going to say we need a picture of everyone to put up)  Then as my husband is setting the timer he is going to say, "oh, and Leah's pregnant."  Then he is just going to keep snapping pictures to capture their reactions.  I plan to do the same for his side of the family.  That way we can each be apart of our families surprise!  If we do end up pregnant it will be the first grandchild on each side :)

I posted something similar to this the other day, but if you have a camcorder that takes still shots as well you could set it to record instead and get complete reaction with sound and all. This is what I plan to do and am hoping for Tgiving or Xmas reveal.

  • With my 1st LO...we bought "I love my grandma/grandpa" bibs..we put them in gift bags and gave them out. when i told my co workers...i had sweet rolls and put those little pink and blue rattles on top and handed them out for a morning snack! think this time when we get our BFP we will have my son wear a big brother tshirt and visit family!!

So our family knows and not the public just yet. That will be after we directly call our parents of course.
I really like the card idea. I wouldnt give him the test though. I might take a picture of it so he could see too. I like the family page on FB. I would just send a picture to everyone's phone but not everyone has that option so the FB thing might be better. :) Thanks for the good ideas!!

  • I plan on buying a onesie of our favorite college team (our alma mater, Oklahoma State University) along with a first-time dad book and either the pregnancy test itself or a picture of it all wrapped in a box together to give him at a dinner out.

ETA: for our parents, I am going to give each set of parents a "grandparents" picture frame with either a picture of the positive pregnancy test or the first ultrasound, depending on how early we decide to tell them.  For my sister (who I am closest to and knows about our TTC struggles), I will do the same thing with the picture frame except one that says "Aunt and Uncle" or something like that.  For all other family, we will just be mailing them a picture of the ultrasound.

My husband and I plan to:

Ask our family to get together for a picture (we just bought a house and we are going to say we need a picture of everyone to put up)  Then as my husband is setting the timer he is going to say, "oh, and Leah's pregnant."  Then he is just going to keep snapping pictures to capture their reactions.  I plan to do the same for his side of the family.  That way we can each be apart of our families surprise!  If we do end up pregnant it will be the first grandchild on each side :)

Just wanted to say I love your wedding dress & I assume you're a OSU fan? OH- !!

  • When we first started trying for DD#1 I bought 2 children's books: Just Me and My Grandma and Just Me and My Grandpa (the Mercer Mayer critter books). I am so glad I bought them ahead of time, because the day after my BFP we showed up at their door and gave them the books. Because they were books we had read when I was little, it took them a second to catch on to the significance of me giving them to them now. I loved that we did it this way. Next time, we will do an idea that was posted on another board: take a picture of the three of us (just after BFP) and frame it with a note attached that reads: price of printing photograph: $0.60, cost of frame: $10.00, your face as you realize there are 4 of us in the picture: priceless!

  • Depending on the person, we'll do it in different ways.

My parents, probably tell them right away, perhaps with giving them something that says "I love Grandma/Grandpa", a picture of the u/s at 3 months for my in-laws, and for my brother and other relatives just share the news via skype or in person.

  • Since the way I did it last time was horrible, this time I plan on doing something cute.  Maybe putting DD in a cute "Big sister" shirt or onesie.

I posted something similar to this the other day, but if you have a camcorder that takes still shots as well you could set it to record instead and get complete reaction with sound and all. This is what I plan to do and am hoping for Tgiving or Xmas reveal.

I love this idea and plan on stealing it :)

When I got my BFP in December I bought a Yankees onesie and a card. I wrapped it up like a xmas present and gave it to MH when he came home from Paris as an early xmas gift.

This time around, I'm not sure I will be doing something like that. I'm worried about getting too attached too soon.

  • Telling parents: got them pink & blue flowers and a "Congrats: you're going to be grandparents again" cards.  Nothing too fancy.

    Telling DH:

I knew I was pregnant before DH knew. I tested at 12 dpo. In the morning. At home. Before work. I was pretty darn sure, the answer was going to be ?No?, but either way, I wanted to know. Needless to say, it wasn?t a no. It was a very clear, very quick yes. I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror and gasped! Big eyes. I even said ?Holy buckets!?

Background: For some odd reason, when we were dating, I kept a log of all our dates. In October 2009, I knew we were coming up on our 100th date. So I invited now-DH on a date! I sent him an invitation and everything.

For that date, I decorated a small room with 100 balloons (yes, I had help blowing them up!). Each one represented one of our dates. On 10 of them, I wrote my top 10 favorite ones. The goal was that we?d laugh about them, then head to dinner. Instead, DH got there and proposed!

Telling DH: So, to tell DH about the pregnancy, I had 3 things:
    1) A surprise in the shower
    2) A countdown
    3) A gift

I wanted to fill the bathtub with pink and blue balloons. Then when he would go in to take a shower, he?d see them and hopefully know! I also had a couple of other things planned.

So, when I got off work that day (I took the afternoon off to put my plan into action), I blew up balloons. The problem is that I had bought the balloons months ago and I think they went ?bad? (can balloons go bad?). Over 1/2 of them wouldn?t inflate and most of the pink ones wouldn?t blow up round ? they were like hot dogs instead of hamburgers. Irg! So I called a grocery store and ordered a helium balloon bouquet. They all went into the shower, safely hidden behind the curtain. I also used my shower crayons and wrote: ?You?re gonna be a dad! 4.29.12?.

That day: We woke up super early that Saturday morning. As is our Saturday morning tradition, DH made pancakes and we ate breakfast. Then he went into the bathroom to shave and shower. I got out my gift(s) for him and waited not-so-patiently on the bed. I tried to hear what was going on in the bathroom, but couldn?t hear very well. He shaved. Then I heard the shower curtain open so that he could start the water. Then I heard the door open and he made his way into the bedroom, where he saw this:

I did use more balloons, but didn't get a "final" picture for some reason!

    and this:

    Him: ?Jayme??
    Me: ?Jeff?? (totally smiling)
    Him: ?Are you serious??
Me: ?Yup. I even have proof.? (I showed him the test that I had hidden the day before.)
Him: ?Wow. Well, Natural Family Planning works!? (I laughed. I guess you never know if the system works or if you have fertility issues until you try.)
Me: ?Yes, I guess it does!?

Then I gave him one of his gifts.

I had made a paper chain that you use to countdown to things (you commonly see kids do them around Christmas time). On the outside of the chain was a week # of pregnancy. On the inside of the chain was a short description of what would be happening that week in the pregnancy. I did that when we were engaged to count down the number of weeks (which also happened to be 40 weeks!)

Yes, it's mostly blue, but that doesn't mean we're having a boy. It means that's what color of scrapbook paper I had on hand!

After that, he went back and showered. When he came back out, he went to the closet to get dressed (which is good; people appreciate that!). Hanging in the closet next to his clothes was a hanger with a baby-size plaid shirt and a pair of overalls. He chuckled at that one. It?s still there as a reminder of what?s in store for us!

My husband wears plaid to work every single day. I love little kids in overalls!

Love the idea of the ultrasound photo.  DH and I were thinking the same... we don't think we'll tell our families till the 2nd tri, so this way we'll have a photo of the baby and a message like, "can't wait to meet you in [insert month]!"

For my husband, I'd probably just blurt it out even though I can think of a million cute ways.  I'm no good at keeping anything from him and I'd probably just cry anyway.

  • Wanted to share a cute one I stalked on You Tube.  My DH won't have a surprise since he gets to go to the Dr with me, but I had one for my parents.  Basically get your fam to sit and watch a video of your latest vacay or whatever.

The grandkids take turns holding up signs with giant #'s and saying things like "My name is joe Don Smith, I was born after a long labor on 01-01-01, I am grandkid #1"

Then so on and so forth down the line.  Then the last shot is you and DH holding up whichever # your baby will be and say something like "coming soon on 03-03-03, grandkid #5"

I thought it was super cute.  I thought it would even cuter if you were having twins and were like, #5, and then you and DH look at each other, and oull a #6 from behind that paper.

Clearly I watch too much You Tube. But if anyone happens to do this, totally post it and tell me!!!!  LOL
