Beta Doubling Question

If you have more than two betas should your third doubling time be counted from the first beta or the second beta?

The reason I ask is that I got my 3rd beta number yesterday and its making me really nervous.

08/18 #1 213

08/25 #2 1781

08/29 #3 2955

The first doubling time was 54.83, however my third calculated from the second is around 131 doubling time which is way out of the normal range. However if I calculate from beta 1 it is around 68 which is within the normal range.

My nurse said the number looked fine so I feel I should trust them and that they know what they are looking for. Its so hard not to overanalyze everything.

Thanks for the support here. I haven't been around much and I know I have been pretty selfish with my questions but I really appreciate the advice.

Doubling from one to the next in 2-3 days is a very rough guideline.  The rise will slow as you go on.  If you are in the range of normal (check betabase), I would not worry.  Soon an u/s will give you much more useful info.  GL!

Betas slow down once they start getting high. This chart might help reassure you:

    "Normal" Doubling Time
    hCG levels Doubling Time
    Under 1200 mIU/ml 31-72 hours
    Between 1200 to 6000 mIU/ml 72-96 hours
    Over 6000 mIU/ml more than 96 hours

ETA: Like the PP said, now that you are above the 2,000 mark, an u/s is much more reliable indicator of how things are going. GL!

    After TTC with IR PCOS:
    April 2011: Metformin 1500mg + Clomid 100mg + Ovidrel + Prometrium = BFP!
