Infertility

Any NYC ladies with an RE recommendation?

Hi ladies,

I'm 39 and trying for my first.  My home board is ttcal, but I think this question might be more suitable here.  After my m/c in March, we've had no luck.  Next step is an RE and though I've been doing lots of online research, it would be so helpful to get some recommendations from ladies in the NYC area.

Thank you in advance.

Me: 39 DH: 35 - TTC #1 since October 2010
BFP #1 2-1-11 Missed Miscarriage 3-14-11(9 wks)-D&C
BFP #2 9-17-11 EDD 5-29-12
Edward James born 3-14-12 weighing 1lb11oz at 29w1d via c section due to low fluid and growth restriction from crappy placenta.

Re: Any NYC ladies with an RE recommendation?

  • I'm very sorry for your loss.

Do you have any IF insurance?  I would check and see first what RE's accept it.

I'm at SIRM NY (love it) https://haveababy.com/

these are other NYC clinics that other ladies on this board (IF Vets, PaIF, SaIF) has used or are using

    Cornell https://www.ivf.org/ ( i was a patient here)

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

I did check about insurance.  Testing covered, but the big guns (Ivf, iui) are not.

NYU, RMA and SIRM were on my list.  I called NYU first and got an appointment for mid Sept.  I should have probably called someone more convenient to get to (NYU is out in the boonies on the East side near no transportation)  Oh well :-)

If you decide to go to SIRM and have any questions feel free to page me.  I really love my RE and nurses.  It's located on 38th just off 5th.

  • I have cycled at CRMI and CWRC and consulted at NYU and SIRM if you have any Qs. If you are AMA and want to pull out the big guns, you should see Dr Davis at Cornell, but he takes no insurance which will add up. If you are in NY state and have mandated coverage for u/s and bloodwork, it knocks off a few K off your procedures. If you have meds coverage it also helps a lot to keep costs down. If it matters to you if you get more hand holding or not, or if you want a ship-shape admin staff, you may be frustrated at CRMI but medically they are very impressive.

You can pm me for more information. I am AMA at CRMI and looking into DE after a bunch of failed IVFs, with one more hail Mary cycle next month...

  • I live in Chicago, but my RE is in NYC.  Dr. Gleicher at the Center for Human Reproduction.  CHR specializes in the most difficult infertility cases ... like mine, 40yo, high FSH, low AMH ... and sounds like yours maybe.  A RE in Chicago that I talked to described him as, "about 20 years ahead of his time, a real out of the box thinker."

CHR only takes 2 types of insurance, Aetna and something else, but you can always file for out-of-network benefits with your insurance company.  That's what I do; it's still covered at 60%, better than nothing.

You have to go where you feel best, but I went to 2 REs in Chicago, didn't like what they had to say, (basically wrote me off as transitioning/menopausal/post-menopausal), and then found Dr. Gleicher.  I am very pleased so far.  Whatever you have that is causing your IF, Dr. Gleicher will figure it out and have a solution.

  • I'm at Cornell as well.  I honestly believe I'm receiving superior care there.

I have cycled at RMA on Madison (Grunfeld was my RE), IVF resulting in a mc...and moved to Cornell after receiving their 2nd opinion.

Cornell wasn't on your list, but I really do rec them.  The clinic has some BS, but i do really feel like "if they can't get me pregnant, no one can".

I see Dr Spandorfer, and i really am happy with him.
