Compare Your Dilation/Effacement Progress

I am curious to know where everyone else stands as far as dilation and effacement, or if you have already delivered, what your last "stats" were before labor.  I am due 9/22.

At my 36 week appt, I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced, and my doctor said my cervix was still pretty far back, and baby was at a -2 or -3 station, meaning he is moving into my pelvis, but not engaged yet.

I am 36w5d, and at my appt today, my doctor said nothing had changed.  I am a little bit discouraged, so hoping to see where everyone else is at, and those of you who share my situation, we don't have long to go, so keep hanging in there!

Re: Compare Your Dilation/Effacement Progress

  • 3cm as of Friday, 38w. No effacement. Second babies don't drop until last minute so it was pretty much what the doctor expected it to be. With DS I was 2cm and 50% for a month and he wasn't born until 6 days overdue. So early "progress" may mean nothing at all.

  • I have the same due date as you (9/22) and have yet to have an internal, so no progress to report.  I suspect I may have one tomorrow or next week as we try and figure out if my high BP is pre-e or just high BP.  If it is pre-e we'll probably discuss induction and will need to get an idea on my progress.

  • 75% Effaced, -1 and no dilation. Due on the first!!! And he's my first!
  • At 37 week appt (last thurs), a fingertip dilated (which is defined as "more than zero, less than one" according to my dr), 50% effaced.

We'll see what they say tomorrow!  I have had very few contractions, and haven't been as active this past week as I'd have liked to be, so if those are any indicators, I'm in for the long haul.

I'd be so stinkin' excited if he said I was 4 cm tomorrow lol!

  • At my 37 week appointment I was 2-3 cm and 70% effaced. 38 week appointment they said 3 cm and 90%. I have my 39 week appointment tonight so I'm curious to see if there has been further progress. They never commented on the station though.  My due date is Sept 6th.

  • I was 1 cm/20% at 36 and 37 weeks. I'm now at 2 cm/50% at 38 weeks.

  • At 36w4d I was dilated "a fingertip" and I didn't have some effacement, but she didn't specify how much. I also don't know what my official station was, but the OB could feel the baby's head already. I had been having irregular contractions for a week or two, and my OB said that probably was helping to "soften" my cervix.

At my 37w3d appointment, I was dilated 1.5cm and over 50% effaced. I had still been having irregular contractions all week. My appointment was at 1pm and at 7pm we headed to the hospital because I was having regular contractions. When I got into triage around 8, I was 4cm. I had the baby around 3:30am.

  • At my 37 week appointment I was a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced. At my 38 week appointment yesterday I was 1cm dilated, 100% effaced, and baby is "very low" whatever that means! I didn't ask what station or anything but I feel like if I sneeze the baby is going to pop out, thats how much pressure I am having!

  • At 36 weeks, I was a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced and baby was low, but I don't know the station. I know my doc could feel his head, though. I'll find out Thursday if I have made any progress.

  • at my 35w appt I was a "dimple" dilated. Last week for my 36 week appt I was 1cm dilated and baby is a station zero. She kept commenting on how low his head was already and that it would mean less pushing for me when the time comes (AMEN TO THAT!). She didn't mention effacement...just said my cervix was thinning. I'm curious to see if anything has changed when I go in on Thurs.
  • At my 36 week appointment i was 50% effaced, as of last Thursday (37 weeks) I was 50% effaced, "almost" 1cm dilated and "very soft".  Dr didn't mention my station, but he feels very low!

I have my next appt tomorrow and would be thrilled to have progress to report :)

  • At 36 weeks I was 60% effaced, not dilated at all and baby was at -2 station. This morning (37 weeks) my said I was "continuing to thin out" and a fingertip dilated, which isn't much but it's more than last week so I'll take it!

  • At my last appointment (36 weeks) nothing. However, today (at the 37 week appointment) I was 1 cm. The doctor didn't mention effacement, but I'm assuming there would need to be some for me to dilate. I've been having occasional contractions, some of them slightly painful, on and off for the past week or two.

  • Zero dilation, some softening of the cervix, and the cervix is still pretty far back. On the plus side, they could feel the baby's head so he's dropping into position. My doctor does not provide station or percentage of effacement. She may or may not provide a dilation estimate since I have nothing to provide an estimate of. This is from today at 39w3d. I'm glad I've made a very comfy 40 week home for LO, but let's get this show on the road!

I will say BH/crampiness/clearing out have picked up so that is encouraging at least.

  • I'm reading everyone's changes and It's making me feel so jealous.  At my 37week check yesterday, I still have had no changes at all.  The baby is head down and that's it.  No effacement no dilation, nothing.   :(
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • At my 37 week appt today the doc said my cervix is closed and the baby is high.

  • My OB doesn't check until 38 - and at 38 I was 1cm, and baby was in "North Dakota", at 39 I was 3cm and baby was in "Kansas".  I'm not exactly sure how the geographic references relate to position, but I'm guessing we want to be in Texas and that the gulf would be the actual birth.  I find the countrified references that my doctor uses to be quite amusing, albeit somewhat vague.

  • @ 35 weeks I was 1cm, 50% and +1

  • due 9.18 and i'm dilated at 1.5 cm, cervix is soft. baby's head still high.
  • Not that it means anything, it can change in a matter of hours whe yiu suddely fly into labor... Ive been 3cms and 90% for over a week now. So hoping for more news tomorrow morning at my OB ap, but i know whatever the news is, doesnt necessarily make a whole lot of difference in when i can expect those first true contractions. Patience is so hard huh.

  • I'm really surprised some of you have had internals as early as 35 or 36 weeks. Did you request it or did your doctor just do it? Mine prefers not to do many internal checks but she can oblige to requests after the 37w point.

  • Yesterday was my 40 week: 1 cm dilated, 75% effaced; baby has dropped, but not sure what station he's at (I forgot to ask).

I was soooo glad to find that out, because it was my first internal, (up to this point, I didn't care to check; didn't feel like there was much going on) and I was happy to find that he has indeed dropped. All my experienced "mother" friends insisted that he hadn't, but I'm short & have a short torso, so on the outside, there wasn't much difference.

    Yay for progress!

  • At 33 weeks I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. At 34 weeks, 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced and that stayed the same for 35 weeks.

My 38 week appt is tomorrow...so we'll see. I feel a lot worse down there and care barely walk today- but I also slid into a semi-split last night by accident, so i think I may have either killed my vagina or made something progress by accident.

I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks, and did not ask for an internal. But, once that happens it was standard to check me internally weekly until they hit 36 weeks (when I guess they would no longer have tried to prevent the baby from coming).  So that is why I know from early on and then have a gap and will know tomorrow at 38 weeks. Also, they checked me at 33 weeks because they were checking for an infection and that is how they caught the early labor. And, tomorrow they are deciding what to do because I have since developed hypertension out of nowhere so they may want to induce for medical reasons if nothing is progressing.

  • I was 1cm last week (36w2d). My doctor didn't say anything other than that and that my cervix is softening.

Tomorrow is my 37 week appointment and I'm curious to see if I've made any "progress." I had some pretty intense contractions and discharge last night, so I'd be shocked (and disappointed) if things haven't progressed a bit.

I was getting my strep B test and she just checked, I didnt ask her, she just did it..I dont go back till I'm 37 weeks which is in a week. I also have a history of going in to labor early so I guess that might be the reason...?

  • At 35 weeks, I was one finger-tip dilated and although she could feel the baby's head in my pelvis, she could push him back up a little.  She didn't say how much I was effaced.

This is my third pregnancy and I went early with #2 so I asked to be checked when she did my GBS test.

  • At my appointment last week (36w1d) I was 50% effaced.  There was no mention of dilation, postion, or anything else.

At my appointment this week (37w1d) I was 1cm dilated.  She said that my cervix was still high.  There was no mention of effacement, position, or anything.

  • At 37 weeks, I was barely a fingertip dilated (I forgot to ask for station/ effacement). Yesterday, at 38 weeks, I was 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced, and -2 station. She said that was significant progress from my previous appointment (at least in the dilation & effacement), and gave me a 50/50 shot of going into labor in the next week (which isn't too much more than my due date would tell you). It is kind of discouraging hearing people with my exact same progress much earlier than I am now....but I guess it really doesn't mean that much, since things can stay put for a long time or progress very rapidly.
  • im due 9/5 and 0cm/70%, cervix is very high and baby still hasn't dropped but she said my cervix is soft whatever that means

My practice starts at 36 weeks and then will check at every subsequent appointment. I almost asked them not to, but I didn't and I kind of regret it because I really don't want him coming for another week and a half to 2 weeks, but I can't help but freak out that it could happen any minute now!

  • My office doesn't start checking until 38/39 weeks.  But she said as long as my undies were off for the GBS test she might as well check.  I opted to not have her check though.  Maybe at my 37 week appointment on Thursday I can talk her into it?

  • 35w5d, had an internal today. 1cm dilated, 50% effaced, baby is low (no station mentioned by OB), and cervix is high.

  • My Dr was hesitant to tell me anything since it doesn't really indicate anything, but today, at 39+ wks, I am 2 cm, but I'm VERY soft and VERY thin. I was 80% last week (different OB checked me).

I have been having contractions for two days now that are getting progressively worse and I feel like the little darling is going to fall out any day now... My OB said she doubts I'll make it through the weekend! Yippy!

  • 2 weeks ago I was 35w2d at my appointment and cervix was high, closed, and had no progress. I didn't get checked last week, and I'm not sure if they are checking me tomorrow. I can tell she is still very high and hasn't moved down at all though so I'm not expecting much. I may go for a long walk tonight!
  • I am 37wks 4days and am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced.  My next appt. is this friday and I"m due Sept. 17th.  I've also been measuring ahead one week.

  • I'm 8cm dilated and 100% effaced, but totally not in active labor. I'm having a home birth and was with my midwife all weekend, but when my contractions stopped and didn't start again, she left. So there's not much I can do but wait around. It's amazing to me that I can be so close and still not in labor.

  • My OB doesn't check until 38 weeks unless there is reason to... so I'll get checked at my appt on Friday. My guess is not much is going on...
