So DD isn't 24 months yet, but is close enough that I thought I would ask you ladies. We are going to a wedding in October and the hotel doens't have cribs. We feel as if DD isn't ready for a "big girl" bed just yet and are thinking of bringing her PNP. The problem is that the PNP pad is so thin. I have thought about purchasing one of those thicker mattresses for her PNP. What has been your experience on it? Is it worth it and do you think your LO slept better then if they just had the pad that came with the PNP?
My IL's will be coming to watch her since DH and I are going to be helping with the wedding (I'm the MOH). We have never coslept with DD and I am not comfortable having the IL's cosleep with her.
Any input on the PNP thicker mattress?
Re: Jumping over here with a question
I wouldn't spend money on that at this point. The hotel doesn't have any PnPs or cribs?
You could always get a roll away bed for her and just stick it again a wall and then put a chair on another side - we did this with DD a few months ago and she LOVED it! Slept on her big girl bed. You can also co-sleep and have you and DD sleep together and then DH separate. We've done this a few times too.
The hotel only has PNP...so we thought we would just save ourselves the money and bring our own....I just feel the pad is so thin and when she had to use it this last February, she slept bad.

Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
We have tried bed sharing...but she thinks it's playtime....even if we turn opposite directions and ignore her

I don't have the thicker PNP mattress but what I do when I have the ability is I bring one of our nice big blankets from home, I fold it and wrap the top and sides of the PNP mattress and then I use a fitted PNP sheet to cover the whole thing. This seems to do the trick for both kids - it's softer and cushier - and they sleep better than on the thin mattresses alone.

We do this exact thing as well!
We bought this earlier this year when traveling to Hawaii.

We love it. It packs up into a small travel bag and goes with us whenever we go out of town or sleep away from home. DD sleeps really well on it as well.
We also used to fold blankets and put a sheet over them to pad the mattress.
As for saving money by bringing your own, is the hotel charging for the use of a pack n play? I've never experienced a hotel charging for the use of a crib or pack n play. I totally understand if you want to bring your own just because or because sometimes hotels aren't the nicest but I'm just flabberghasted they charge for pack n plays.
When we went to visit my in-laws in July I ordered 2 kid sized air mattresses for the girls to sleep on. I wasn't sure how DD2 would do (she was 19 mos at the time), but they both did really well on them. I did put hers up against a wall with some pillows along the side so it was more "crib like".
