Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Shoes? Where do you get your toddlers?

M is a peanut and wears a size 2. However, she has wide feet. Tennis shoes fit her fine but I have to get a size 2W in dress shoes and they are very hard to find. Where do you buy your toddlers shoes?

  • I took my DD to Stride Rite and had her measured (she is 15 months and has a 5.5 W-must have inherited my gigantic feet lol) and they have a good selection of wide shoes.

  • We have a store near us called "Once Upon A Child".  They have a TON of shoes in every size and are usually in really good shape.  I dont really want to buy shoes for LO at a regular store because they are so expensive and LO's grow out of them so fast.  DD just grew out of her size 2's this past week.  I went to "Once Upon A Child" this past weekend to get her some size 3's and I saw some narrow and some wide.  Obviously there are times where they dont have anything that will work for her, but usually they do.

Oh, I guess I should explain that "Once Upon A Child" is a second hand store.

  • My DD has wide feet as well.  I've only had luck at Stride Rite.

Yes we have a Once Upon A Child here and I love it. Why buy all her clothes there and when she outgrows them we sell them back and use that money to buy more. I have been lucky to find one pair of size 2W there but that's it. I might go back this weekend though. They are having another sale!

  • I love ebay for shoes.  I have founds really great deals on shoes that have been worn only a few times.  We also live by an outlet mall which has a nike outlet store.  I have found some great deals there too.  DS's feet grow so fast that I try to find bargains when I can.  I learned that after spending $35 on the cutest pair of pumas that DS was able to wear for 1.5 months.  Did I mention that they were really cute though Big Smile

We have Pumas for M because H just had to get them. We were really lucky though and got them at a second hand store for only $10!

We don't have a Stride Rite near us either but Dillards carries them and I usually stock up when they have their sales.

  • DS wears size 6!!! He didn't even wear size 2 when he was born!!! How cute!! Piper Lime on Old Navy's site has a lot of WIDE shoes. They also do free shipping to & from, so you can buy several & just send back the ones that don't work.

There are a lot of websites that carry Stride Rite and many of them have good deals.  Check out: Amazon, Endless, 6pm, and Zappos.

  • We go to a local family owned shoe store.  They know A LOT about shoes and fitting children.  DS has wide feet, almost XW.  His "first" pair of tennis shoes were New Balance and then for the summer he has been wearing Keen sandals.  For the fall I ordered him a pair of Jumping Jacks, which are a brand very similar to Stride Rite.  So far, I haven't had any luck finding shoes with a wide size at typical stores.

    Good luck!

  • We usually go with Striderite, but I like to hit the sales and Nordys, Dillards, and Macy's...and they just opened a journey's for kids in our local mall - they have really cute pumas, converse, nikes, etc.

I was going to suggest this, too. DS wears a 6 or 7 and has a chunky foot and I got him a pair of Stride Rite tennis shoes there a few weekends ago for $19.99. I also have a lot of luck at The Children's Place.

  • Do you have a good kid shoe store near you? We have one that sells a lot of the name brands -- see kai run, pediped, etc. -- so that's where I usually shop when I want good quality shoes (as opposed to dress shoes or sandals that only get occasional wear, in which case I often just get them at Target).

I don't think you're necessarily limited to Stride Rite for wide feet, but you can find them and other brands at Zappos, where you can sort by width and get free shipping and returns. I'd still recommend going to a shoe store first to have her measured and try on some different brands to avoid having to make a bunch of online returns.

  • Nike Clearance store, Gymboree, Target, Ross (mostly), and Wal-Mart. DS is rocking size 6's these days. Ross, Marshalls, T.J. Max are great places to get cheap shoes for less than $20.00.

  • I get DD pediped grip n go (I LOVE THEM) but they are $45 for each pair so she only has 2-3 pairs of shoes.

Also got her keens that are a sandal and a tennis shoe combo and they are great but they were $56 on zappos.

The kid has more expensive shoes than I buy for myself but she got blisters in crocs and often has stinky feet. When I get the anitmicrobial (keen) or the all leather (pediped) she has no problems.
