Pregnant after a Loss

In between RE and OBGYN and Brown Spotting. Advice Needed.

So, last night when I went to the bathroom I saw that there was some brown spotting in my underwear.  After that, it was never enough to show up on my underwear, but always a little bit there when I wiped through the night (I get up to pee at least 2x per night!)

I definitely want to call my dr. to come in for an u/s because I'm going on a trip to Florida on Thursday for a family wedding, so I want to make sure everything is ok before we leave and because we are planning on telling a lot of my extended family that we don't see often.

The problem is that I was released from the RE last Monday and my first appt with my obgyn isn't until Sept 9.  I'm a current patient at the obgyn's office, so it's not like I've never been there before.  But the RE is really easy to get in for a quick u/s.  With my obgyn, I know they are very busy (but could maybe squeeze me in).

So, who would you call if you were in my situation?  And T&Ps please that this spotting is nothing!

Thanks Ladies!

  • I really hope it's nothing!!  I know spotting can be normal but it's always scary.  I would probably just call the RE since you think you could get right in and then call the OB if you can't.  Good luck!!

  • Oh hun, I'm sorry you're dealing with this! Ugh, PgAL is never just easy is it? I've got everything crossed that it's nothing.

Although spotting can be common, it is never "normal". Luckily, brown blood is old blood and hopefully that's a good sign. Have you had a pap, internal exam, u/s, or intercourse lately? It could be an irritated sensitive cervix - the blood could have have been trapped or pooled, which would allow it time to turn brown, and is just now making its appearance.

As far as who to call, I would call your RE first since he was the last to see you and is most familiar with your case at this point. The worst they can do is tell you to call your OB instead. Hopefully they can help you out! Lots of thoughts, prayers and positive vibes for you guys!

  • I'd probably call the RE. If it's easier to get in there great! And the RE is probably more familiar with you currently than the OBGYN. GL on whatever you decide and have a great trip to FL!

  • I would also call the RE.  Hang in there.  I have had spotting and even red blood about six times already in this pg and so far everything is fine.  T&Ps that it is just your cervix and everything with LO is great!  ((hugs))

  • I would call the OB for the simple fact you're not still the RE's patient because your pregnancy has progressed to where you need an OBGYN, not an RE.

I had some spotting and my OBGYN said if I wanted an ultrasound she would get me in the next day (spotting was 11pm at night) but it stopped an hour later and I was okay with it because I had an appointment Monday anyways. My OBGYN said that spotting right now is usually a placenta issue and if it gets close to bleeding like a period, I am to go to the ER, but if I have any more spotting they will get me in the same day or if it's night the next day. My OBGYN is also very busy. You have to be an established patient before pregnancy because she doesn't accept new pregnant patients and hasn't for a long time because she's always busy with deliveries, prenatal care and also women who have reproductive organ issues, such as abnormal paps and so on.

I think your under estimating how awesome your OBGYN might be...

  • I would call the RE first and if they can't fit you in, call the OB. T&P's headed your way!

  • Given that you're leaving town, I'd call both.  It sounds like the RE could fit you in better, but the OB might be who you're technically in the care of.  In either case, the more notice they have the more likely they can squeeze you in.

Its a good sign that it was brown, so light, and apparently isn't still going on.  Sucks that you're experiencing it though, spotting is so scary.

  • This happened to me when I was released from the RE and hadn't yet seen my OB (although I was a patient of the OB already). I called my RE because it happened on a Saturday and I knew they could get me in for a u/s on Sunday morning.
