Infertility

ET

Today we had our transfer.  Out of the 12 eggs fertilized 11 of them made it to day 5.  Six were early blastocysts and the other 5 were morula.  We decided to transfer all 6 blasts and 1 of the morula.  The remaining 4 they will wait 2 more days and then freeze.  Beta is scheduled for Sept. 7th.  Excited!!!

Re: ET

  • You transferred 7 embryos for an IVF cycle?

  • Congrats on all those great embryos, sounds really exciting!

Pardon the following question if the answer is obvious to everyone but me, but did you say you transferred 7 embryos?  I guess I'm confused by how that happens, since I didn't think most doctors were comfortable transferring more than 3 or 4.

I'm still new to all this though, so I'm just trying to understand the options out there.

Congratulations and all the best during your 2ww!

  • At my age the normal to transfer is 4 maybe 5 depending on quality.  I didn't think they would transfer 7 either but when I asked they had no problem with it.  They said they would bend the rules.  Me and DH gave it alot of thought and it's a decision we both came up with.  We just want to conceive a child and the chances of having twins or triplets is something we have also discussed.
  • Sounds like great numbers.  I'm still so confused.  They let you transfer  7 embryos?  Wow!

  • I'm really curious to hear how this turns out for you.  DH and I have been debating whether to transfer 2 or 3, should we have that option (slated to start stims for IVF #1 this week), as we'd be thrilled to have twins (we would like 2 kids and currently have none), but aren't sure how we feel about triplets.

If you don't mind my asking, what is your age (I'm 38) and what has your experience been with previous IVF attempts?

Even though everyone has different experiences with IVF, not to mention different IF issues, I'm always interested in learning as much as possible as I get ready to start the process myself.

  • This will be our 4th IVF.  Our first IVF was in 2007 and we transferred (2) on day 3 1-4 cell and 1-6 cell.  We have a 4 year old son from that cycle.   Our 2nd IVF we transferred 2-8 cell, 1-4 cell, and 1-6 cell (also day 3).  No luck with that one.  Our 3rd was this past March we traveled to the Czech Republic.  We had a 2 day transfer of 1-4 cell and 1-6 cell.  No luck either.  I never produced many follicles, but with this cycle we somehow did unbelievably good.  I'm 42 years old and we know age is not on our side.
  • Thanks for sharing.  That gives us something to think about.  Here's hoping you get at least one sticky from this bunch.  All the best to you!
