Hi ladies, I already called my pedi's office and spoke to the nurse but I wanted to post on here, too. I'm not sure if anyone else has gone through this or not....
My LO is 9 weeks and the last two days have been a little bit rough. He's had 4 BM's in the last 30 hours (he usually goes once per day, sometimes twice). The first 3 were very runny, green (normal for him) and soaked right into the diaper. The most recent one was yellow-ish/green and thicker. He's been very fussy and not wanting to take the bottle - he'll eat a couple of ounces (normally eats about 5) and then cries. A few minutes later I will try to give him the bottle again and he'll take it, but then start pushing it out with his tongue. Then he'll take it again but starts crying after a few swallows. He's extremely tired, too, but the last two nights he hasn't slept through the night (which he has done for 2 1/2 weeks now). He wakes up SCREAMING for a bottle, but the same thing happens over again.
He has plenty of wet diapers and we are watching out for this all the time. I have checked his temperature multiple times (multiple ways...) over the last 2 days and the highest has been 99. My pedi's office said to get some pedialyte and if his urine output starts to slow down, give him up to 2 bottles a day of it. They said that it's probably just a bug and it will work its course. I have his 2 month appointment on Thursday and right now, they said they don't think I need to bring him in.
Has anyone gone through something similar? I'd just like some peace of mind. He's not doing terrible...I even just got him to smile. But he's not doing well...and it sucks.
Re: 9w old not feeling well...
My DS just went through something similar, I called his dr for reassurance and they said it should pass in 24 hours (it did) but I could A.) bring him in then for more reassurance B.) wait the 24hrs and if it didn't pass they wanted to see him. They didn't suggest pedialyte though.
I snuggled my little guy a ton, even letting him sleep in my arms just so he'd get rest. I hope this passes soon for you and him!
GL!

If he's making the normal amount of wet diapers, I wouldn't give him pedialyte because that can cause looser stools if it's truly not needed. As for how he's eating, if it doesn't pass within a day then he may have a milk protein allergy. This is how we began to discover it for my LO. It got way worse when we were going from BM to formula and we ultimately had to switch to a hypoallergenic formula (many LOs with the milk protein allergy also have an allergy to soy). We tried soy this past weekend just to see if we could switch back over slowly and he did well with eating but got diarrhea.
He never had diarrhea before, just extreme fussiness while eating, screaming out in pain almost as he was eating the bottle.
Now that I've said all that and potentially freaked you out...if your LO does have this, it's okay. 98% grow out of it no later than their first birthday. It's different than lactose intolerance. And if you have to put your LO on the hypoallergenic formula (Alimentum or Nutramigen), most insurance companies will cover a portion if you get a scrip from the pedi.
