out of town wedding, need a sitter - any recs

on how to go about finding one? We are in CA and wedding is in FL. The kids are in the wedding but will need a sitter most of the reception (so we can actually have fun).

I'm looking at sittercity and care.com but am getting irrationally more nervous about having someone I don't know watch them (which of course I'm going to have to do!). I've really only had their grandparents or sitters I know really well watch them.

It will seriously be the easiest job ever. I can just turn a movie on or something and they will be in our hotel room and we will be downstairs at the reception. It will be a long day so I'm sure they will just fall asleep while watching the movie.

Any experience with these services? and WHY am I being so paranoid about this?

  • Is the couple getting married local to FL?  Can you ask them for help - at least pointing you to some of their friends who have kids and may be able to help?

They are in FL but live a couple hours from the wedding site. I will ask the bride though and maybe the hotel.
  • I used a service the last time we were in Orlando, they were really, really good.

    The hotel may have recommendations.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I live in FL near Melbourne.  Where is the wedding?  I could see if one of my sitters would be available.  Let me know!

SuperSitters.  Don't know if they are franchised elsewhere.  Very professional.  The woman who came was mature, had a bag of stuff to play with for the kids.  Kids took to her right away, we requested the same person the next time we were out.

It was a big leap for me and I was very satisfied and comfortable with the service.

  • I would ask the couple getting married if they can refer someone that they know or if they know of anyone that lives in the area with young kids who could help out finding a sitter.  Another option is to ask at the hotel.
