Monitors

So I thought I would see where everyone else was at with the selection of monitors. I am 100% sold on having a video monitor as my very good friends have one and I love being able to push the button while we are all hanging out and checking in on him. I have read the stuff about interference but we don't have close neighbors so I am not overly concerned. We are registered for the touch screen Summer Infant video monitor.

Last night a friend mentioned she has a friend who has the Angel care and feels it is the only thing that made her sleep.  I had looked into the Angel care originaly as they have the video option now but it got an F rating with baby bargains as it doesn't really do anything to prevent SIDS just helps parents have a better peace of mind.  Is that worth it??  I am wondering if there are false alarms frequently??

TIA ladies!!! I would love to hear where everyone else is at or what people are currently using

Re: Monitors

  • With our first we have a video monitor by Levana and we really liked it.  The video portion is small and portable which is was my preference, so we could watch her downstairs, sitting outside, or by our night stand. It did work well, we could even see her chest moving.

Now, since we are expecting another and still want to monitor our first, we got the Summer infant monitor with split screens.  Again, it is a slim portable design and so far we are very happy with it.

  • I have several friends that also swear by the Angelcare ones, but I think we will be going with the Summer Infant video monitor. It just makes more sense in my mind that I can look at a screen and see my LO breathing. I feel like if I had the Angelcare, I would still be going in frequently to check on them because I would be afraid that they had moved off of the sensor or that it wasn't working properly or something. And the F rating in Baby Bargains also influences my decision.

  • I just found the Snuza recently.  The reviews on Amazon are good, but I have not gotten any farther than that.  It is a little pager like device that clips on the front of the diaper and sounds an alarm if they quit moving.  I like this better than angelcare because you could use it anywhere the baby is sleeping, and you have less issues with the baby having to lay in just the right place.  I read that the false alarms are mostly due to user error.  We might be paring a snuza with a video monitor because our bedrooms will be on separate floors.

We were just talking about maybe using the two in combination

  • We decided to pass on the angelcare monitor. Instead of making me feel peace, it was adding to the spirit of fear that I already had about SIDS. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it did to us.

We love our Summer Infant Slim & Secure. FWIW, if you get any digital monitor, you don't have to worry about cross connection with neighbors.

  • I use a Motorolla video monitor that we bought on sale along with the Angelcare monitor. https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Digital-Video-Baby-Monitor/dp/B0041Q2V5G/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1314561817&sr=1-1)

I love them both.  DD is a tummy sleeper and having them both really helps me relax and I have not had a false alarm once with the monitor.

  • We have the summer infant baby touch digital. We love it. We actually just bought a second camera. It expands to four cameras.

  • We've had the Summer Infant Slim from day one and LOVE it, the Angelcare never interested me - I've heard too many complaints about it.
