2nd Trimester

What are you scared about?

I was wondering if anyone else is getting scared and what they are getting scared about? I have been worrying a lot about money and how we are going to make it. Currently we cant save any money up for when the baby gets here and I cant barely do my part time job now theres no way I could get a full time job. Another thing I am worried about is giving birth. I do not take pain well at all and I am just scared that when I go into labor I am just going to shut down and not be able to do anything.

Re: What are you scared about?

  • I was scared about the pain.  I got an epiduarl after about an hour and a half at the hospital...and it really didn't feel that long.  And then it was awesome :P

Seriously, as bad as the pain can be...I think describing it sounds worse than when you are going through it, if that makes sense.  You'll be surprised at what you can handle.  And if nothing else, at least you know the pain is temporary!

  • Ya I am definetly planning on getting an epiduarl as soon as possible. I am sure I am way more scared then I probably even need to be. I just keep hearing these bad stories and I have been watching the birthing stories on TLC and I am so interested in the shows but it seems like every time I watch them I get scarer. lol :)
  • It's funny, a lot of people say that Baby Story makes them nervous, but for me it's the opposite...I guess because every story they show on there has a positive outcome...it just shows all the crud that can happen, and there is still hope for a good outcome.

But if it really freaks you out, stop watching it :)

I had to advocate a bit for my epidural, the doctor on-call (not my doctor) doesn't like to give it to women until they are 5cm...which I believe is just a random number he picked out of his head...anyway, when I was 4cm I (politely) argued enough to get it when I wanted...good thing because the anesthesiologist was about to go into a loooong surgery!

And my labour sped up after getting it, which was a bonus.  Many people have the opposite effect though, from what I've heard

  • I am terrified of doing a VBAC. Apparently my doc cannot find hospital records of my c-section. (On call doc did it and he no longer works in my state not sure what to do about it) But going to wish for the best. As long as the baby is healthy. Also worried to see how my daughter will react to her little brother.

  • I'm 100% with you on the financial worries!  My biggest fear/worry though is that my husband just enlisted in the army and will be leaving for 17 weeks of training only 8 weeks after our due date.  I'm stressing to think about how I will handle working, taking care of our newborn daughter and the puppy (she'll be 1 yr old when LO is born and she's a boxer so she's quite the handful!) alone since our family lives far away.

  • My husband and I are both very young and this is our first baby. I am so scared about money. I know that things will get better about 2 months after the baby is born. Thats when I plan to go back to work and will be able to get a better job. The other problem is that my husbands work is seasonal. So he is trying to find a job for when he isn't working hopeful he finds something fast. Such a stressful thing everyday. We have even considered getting a roommate until the baby is born :S

  • Money - I honestly don't think it's overly expensive once they're here (getting ready for them and paying medical bills is expensive tho!). If you breast feed, all you're really paying for is diapers, and you can go thru amazon moms or buy store brand... of course there are other costs here and there, but IMO I don't think it's as bad as people expect.

Epidural - I got mine at about 3.5 cm. My OB didn't care how dilated I was, and they were running pitocin... the nurse kept asking me if I wanted it, and I'd say no, I wasn't in that much pain. I finally got a shot of (I think) stadol... which was wonderful... I felt like I had 5 margaritas... then got my epidural. The stadol before was a blessing, b/c it made me sleepy so I slept til I was ready to push!

BUT there's always a possibility you might not be able to get an epidural, or they don't always work perfectly, so you should still prepare yourself.

My fear w/ my last pregnancy was dying during labor! haha... I guess I was a little extreme... I was never fearful of the pain... I think I was afraid of dying b/c I used to be an ICU nurse, and we'd get all the mamas that went downhill, and I saw how sick you can get postpartum... but those were mostly women w/ no prenatal care or on drugs.

    GL!

  • I am scared of a couple of things, first of all the pain and the fact that I may not be able to get an epidural. I had an injury when I was a teenager that caused my back to have abnormal curvatures (both to the side and front and back).

The other thing I am scared about is the fact that our families live 1/2 away across the country from us and my husband travels a lot (and it increases during the spring time). I know that our friends here will help out if needed and have been told by a lot of people that they will help whenever needed, but having family close by would be nice.

  • Right now, I'm afraid I might have a preterm labor again.  I had it with my son at 32 weeks, and I was on bed rest for a month.  It cannot happen this time because I have a 4 yo to take care of!  Since he is already 4, he is being super nice to me and letting me take it easy.

I'm also going to vbac.  I don't know if I'm scared of it, but definitely wondering what if I ended up having an emergency c-section after trying vbac?

I really don't understand how people can make this blanket statement. Many people have to pay for childcare and at around $200-$400 per week, that's a lot of costs that you didn't have before baby.

  • I'm scared that we will have a HUGE snowstorm (like we did last year in NJ) and I won't be able to get to the hospital AT ALL or in time to get epidural.....Soo nervous about that!

  • With my first pregnancy I ended up having a c-section and I had a placenta acreta.  I hemorrhaged on the table.  It was horrible and very scary.  I only just learned from DH how much blood there was all over the floor and how scared he was.  I am scared that my placenta will be in the same place again and therefor another acreta would be likely :-(

  • As far as pain, it can be bad. With my first I was so concentrated on my contractions that it seemed like no time that they gave me my epidural. after that you relax. The pushing part goes by quick as well. My doctor told me it took me about 45 min with my first child, and it didn't even seem like 20 min.

I guess this time around my biggest thing that I worry about is being able to find a bigger place before the baby gets here. We're getting ready to start looking for me a car. Nothing special just something that is decent and dependable. Mainly for when my husband is at work. So we will have that payment. A place to rent around here is hard to come by, and if they are available it seems like alot of them are outragious!     Other than that, my biggest fear, is something going wrong during labor and having to have a c-section. I am so afraid of having to have that done. Granted I did fine with my first labor. But every pregnancy is different. That is the one thing that scares me the most over all.  I mean my husband works 5 sometimes 6 days a week. 10 hr shifts. So if I were to have to have one, he would only be able to be home for a few weeks. So I would be here by myself half of the day with my 3 yr old and the newborn baby. To do it all until he gets home. I've just heard so many horror stories from my friends....it freaks me out.
