Spitting out food...what the fleck?

I noticed that in the past week, my son is starting to spit out his food....even the food he loves....after a few bites, he just spits it out.  it could be anything from lunch (sandwich) dinner (pasta) or dessert (fruit)

the temperatures are fine

the pieces are not too big

the textures are neither too hard or soft

He will only eat a little bit and then just spits it out like it's gross....I'm starting to get concerned.

What do you think?

  • We've had some problems with this too.  It's a bit inconsistent with my DD, but usually when she does that she's got other teething symptoms and I think that she's not into the food because her teeth hurt.

  • Ds has been doing this, too. He seems to do it with things when he sucks the flavor off of it. We make shake n bake a lot. He suck the catsup and spits out the chicken. He will stuff his mouth with things he likes and spits out some. I'm hoping that this, too. Will pass.

  • glad I'm not alone then.  I was thinking maybe he like swallowed a rock or something and it was caught in the back of his mouth and thus not allowing it to move past the rock so he had to spit.

my mind works weird like that.

  • DD just learned that she could intentionally spit.  So, it's all sorts of fun at my house.

  • I'm pretty sure my DS does that solely to torture the shiit out of me.

You are definitely not alone. DD was doing this too. Very frustrating! It has been getting better in the last couple weeks. I have done nothing different. If she eats, great. If not, that's it. I don't let it become a game. If she spits it out she gets the 3 strikes your out rule. She then has to pick up each piece & throw it away. Then bed time routine begins. Pretty sure it's just a phase. Very trying but hang in there.

  • My son does the same thing.  He will have food in his mouth and randomly starts spitting it out.  He puts his tongue between his lips and blows air out.  The food goes flying...all over me, my glasses, high chair, in my food.  It is soooooo annoying!  I don't know what to do about it other than covering his mouth and saying no, no.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • My son did this for about a month at every meal, and then one day he just stopped and never did it again. Thank goodness!
