Pregnant after a Loss

vent: hearing everyone's movement stories is upsetting..

a woman on my BMB posted a survey on what the baby's movement feels like and I have to say that I feel left out.  I do not feel movement constantly nor is it strong enough to cause pain or distraction.  my doctor keeps telling me that movement at this point will be inconsistent and that my anterior placenta will cushion the movement so that's reassuring.  but still...WTF?  I feel like i'm missing out and, even worse, I'm scared there could be something wrong.  I have an ultrasound coming up in 2 weeks and I DO feel movement, its just not as much as everyone is describing.  Thanks for listening..

  • They say movement is not totally regular until 28 weeks and I really believe that. I felt a big change in her movemet this week (between 28 and 29). You just turned 27 weeks so maybe the same thing will happen for you. Sometimes reading everyone's experiences on here is helpful and reassuring and sometimes it can make you crazy. Try to remember that every baby and pregnancy is different and that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong. GL! I hope LO starts moving around for you really soon!

  • I agree with PP.  I didn't notice consistent, predictable movement until about 29 or 30 weeks and even then he had slower days.  I freak out ALL the time about those days but everything has always been fine.  I have an anterior placenta too.  Don't worry, once those little legs and feet get longer and stronger you will definitely notice and be distracted.  I'm sure everything is just fine but if you're ever worried, just call the OB and get in right away for some reassurance.

  • My LO's movements are predictable only in terms of the time of day that they usually, occur, but certainly not in duration or intensity.  The kid will have three days on, and then will take a rest for a couple of days, which makes me crazy.  Maybe your LO is just a mellow baby - my sister's second child was one of those (and boy has she paid for that since he was born - kid won't sit still now, lol).

It's so hard not to compare our experiences to others. Try not to do that - everyone, every pregnancy, is unique.  And the good news is that you DO recognize some movement, which, according to my doctor, is all you really need to feel assured that everything is cooking ok in there!

  • I know what you mean.  I hate it when people talk about movement.  Our last baby had no movement at all and so far this one is the same.  I have had many u/s and tour LO hasn't so much as accidently moved a toe.  The u/s tech has tried repeatedly to get our LO to move but nothing.  It makes me very angry that I will never get to feel my baby move.

  • I know how you feel - I feel the same way. And I am 30w. I defnitely have movement, but not at all how others describe. I get random movement throughout the day here and there - but never the 'dance party' so many describe. About twice a day I can get my 10 'kicks' in 30 mins or less (which to me is A LOT of movement). Otherwise, I feel her very sporadically. I also can't figure out how shes positioned, because sometimes I feel her way up high by my ribs, but also down low and towards the back (much weaker movements).

I have asked my OB and he said not to stress about kick counts. Just make sure I do feel her and I get a few strong 'kicks' a day. He said 10 movements in an hour is a lot - so if I get that 1-2 times a day, I was feeling enough movement. Of course I am still worried I am not!

  • thank you everyone.  It is hard not to make comparisons but I'm going to try and just enjoy the ride...MY ride.

  • Okay, this was my second baby, and I was freaked out throughout much of the early parts of this pregnancy because he just did NOT move as much (or at least I didn't feel it as much) as I did when I was pregnant with DS.  Makes sense, since I probably have more fat padding than I did when I was pregnant with DS.  Smile   I've had an anterior placenta for both pregnancies, and it DOES cushion the movements.

FWIW, I think what a PP said about the women on your BMB are most likely exaggerating about their LOs movement.  I can absolutely guarantee that you WILL feel your LO moving when you are later on in your pregnancy - by 35-36 weeks, your belly will bulge up visibly - not to mention uncomfortably - and you will sometimes feel like your baby is trying to claw its way directly through the middle of your belly!  Now, there were times that I WAS uncomfortable around 28 weeks with my LO, mainly because he was down very low and was either kicking against my C-section scar from the inside, or kicking my bladder - but the uncomfortable 'oh my god he's totally rearranging my belly from the inside-out' movement did not start until 34-36 weeks.

Don't worry - what you are experiencing is perfectly normal, and you WILL have plenty of movement experiences as your baby grows.

  • I feel the same way and I don't even have an anterior placenta, just a lazy LO I beleive. Everyone tells me that it is normal and a lot of people don't feel consistent and/or painful movement until like 30+ weeks. But I agree its hard not to worry when it seems like everyone else is having so much more movement. Especially when I see all those posts. Or posts about what position the baby is in and stuff when I can't even tell since her movement is never consistent enough in one place to tell.
