Car seat placement with 2 kids?

Currently, DD's seat is sitting behind the driver's seat in my car.  My garage is such that I can't get to the passenger side when I pull into the garage.

So, DD2 will either need to be in the middle of the backseat, or I'll have to trade DD1's spot next to the door.

Which do you think would be better/easier/safer?  Should I put the infant seat in the middle, or put the convertible seat in the middle?

Re: Car seat placement with 2 kids?

  • We plan on keeping DD in the middle since she is forward facing.  I had heard that since forward facing is not as safe that the forward facing kid should be in the middle with the rear facing kid behind the driver.

That said, we aren't sure they are gonna fit that way.  We have the Britax Boulevard and Graco Safeseat both of which are quite large.

  • Loading the player...
  • put your older one in the middle...she will probably be able to climb into the car and her seat right??? Then you just have to lean to buckle her.  And you aren't reaching awkwardly.
  • Put A in the middle.  It'll be easier to get her into her seat and then clip in the infant seat than it would to try to get the infant seat over her carseat and into the base.
  • We put the convertible forward-facing (Evenflo Triumph) in the middle and the rear-facing infant seat (Graco SnugRide) behind the driver. ?It's a tight fit (we drive a Honda Accord) but it works.
  • When DD was in the infant seat, she was in the middle and DS was behind the driver's seat.  Now DS is in the middle FF and DD is behind the driver's seat FF.  I can't see the rear passenger side window if there's a car seat there.
  • You want the least safest child in the middle if you can get the car seats installed that way.  So if your older child is ff then you want her in the middle and the rf infant on the side.
  • I always rode in the front seat as an infant/child. My mom drove corvettes! Wink
