Success after IF

Extremely fussy after 2 month shots?

Ok, now THIS is my last post I swear...but this one isn't about feeding at least?

Was your LO super fussy after their 2 month shots? How long did it last? I tried googling but I kept getting sites linking vaccines to SIDS and mothering.com discussions about how their children had horrific life-threatening reactions to the 2 month shots, how crying after DTaP is from encephalitis, etc., and I just can't read that right now and am getting all paranoid.

She cried after the shot but then I nursed her and she nursed great and was fine when we left and until we got home. I woke her up to eat at the appropriate time when we got home, she fed great, then I put her down for a nap and she slept 2 hours happily. Then when I woke her up from that nap to eat again she absolutely FREAKED. Cried hysterically most of the last hour other than nursing for about a minute then crying again, eating a bit from the bottle, etc. The only thing that calmed her was shushing/jiggling her against my shoulder, then she'd fall asleep, but if I moved she would get hysterical and scream again. It was awful. She's asleep now and swaddled so I could put her down. Is this normal?

  • Yep. Noah's 2 months shots were horrific. He was just about inconsolable the rest of that day/night and was really fussy for about the next two days. It was AWFUL. Totally normal. He would not eat for 2-3 days afterwards either.

  • This is how P reacts. It lasts the rest of the day and then the next day is normal.

  • I cry from shots! It's normal. D was sluggish after the shot, slept woke up at night crying and the next day he wasn't himself. I kept giving him Tylenol and it helped him sleep. If she is not feeling better by tomorrow, give her pedi a call- it never hurts, even if it is just your pedi giving you reassurances!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!

  • Sounds about how it is....

I had to get some boosters a week ago after having some titres drawn for a new job, and OMG they hurt so badly both going in, and for a few days after. I had about 4. My arms hurt, my joints hurt all within about 3 ours of getting them. The pain from the injection made me totally realize why my kids cry. :(

It gave some perspective on why kids may act a little off after vax's

  • We didn't do 2 month vaccines, but I imagine she doesn't feel good from it.  I just got the Tdap vaccine and I felt like crap as an adult for 2 days, so I imagine as an infant they feel pretty crappy too.

Does she have a fever or anything?  Maybe give her some tylenol.  That really helped my DS after shots.

  • This happened after DS 2 and 4 month shots. About 4 hours after he got the shot he screamed inconsolably for close to an hour. I called the pedi and was told it was considered a mild reaction and to keep an eye out for a more serious reaction over the next few hours (but was assured it was very rare). When I took him in for his 6 month appt. the pedi said since he had the reaction twice it was concerning and going forward we are going to spread out the shots so he's not getting so many in one day. The reaction was from DTAP. We couldn't get any shots at that appt because he had an ear infection so I'm taking him Monday for one of his 6 month shots.

  • Yeah DD was fussy all day & slept when she wasn't being fussy. It lasted the whole day when she got the shots. Did you try Tylenol? I gave that to her & she was fine. Also, you may have mentioned this & I missed it (been MIA), but why are you waking her to nurse? I think she's old enough to sleep & wake up on her own when she's hungry, right? Hope she feels better soon.
  • Normal for us!  It normally takes the boys a few days to return to normal.
