Trying to Get Pregnant

Fertilaid

Good evening ladies! I was wondering if anyone has heard of or used Fertilaid. In case we are out this cycle (which I'm betting we are) I have been looking at different herbs and/or supplements that as supposed to help with fertility. I stummbled upon Fertilaid. I have never heard of it before, but after doing some research and reading some reviews it sounds promising. If you have any info or thoughts on this, please share.

TIA

Re: Fertilaid

  • I looked into it, but based on some of the reviews on Amazon I decided to stay away. While many women said it was great for regulating their cycle, many said that it really screwed up cycles that were once regular, and in some cases caused them not to ovulate.

Again, many said they liked it though - I just decided it was something I didn't want to do.

I'm surprised it had that big of an effect.  It's basically a PNV + vitex + ginseng.  I'm taking the female version and MH is taking the male version.  I'm not going to lie -- I'm basically taking it because I didn't want him to feel weird being the only one on fertility vitamins and because, according to my OB/GYN and acupuncturist, it won't hurt and might help.

The male version is very similar to Fertility Blend, and contains ingredients that have been shown in scientific studies to boost count, morph, and motility.  The female version, like I said, is basically a PNV with a couple of herbs (and lacks scientific study backing), so I am less inclined to believe that it's really a fertility booster.

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

  • The reviews about goofing up your cycle does unnerve me a little. I have a very regular cycle, but a shortish LP 10 or 11 days. My sex drive is pretty low which, of course, is a problem. The reviews say that it helps greatly with that. I'm just so confused and wanting to try anything that might help. It isn't cheap so I am trying to get as much info as I can before I decide to purchase it.

    Thanks for your feedback!

I agree! I was surprised to see that herbs could have such a drastic effect one way or other. But I was quite disheartened to read these reviews. I just figured I'd skip trying them. Glad it's not having a bad effect for you though!

  • FWIW, I took vitex for a little over three weeks last cycle (#2), and I ended up having a 48-day cycle with ovulation on CD35. My first cycle was 34 days, with ovulation on CD23. I'm still on my third cycle; ovulation was on CD23 again. I got frustrated in cycle #2 because I was taking so long to ovulate, so I decided to ditch the vitex and see what would happen naturally, and I ovulated a week later.

My DH started taking fertility aid for men about 6 weeks before I conceived. That was our 7th cycle ttc. We also used preconceive lube not preseed just to try something different. not sure if either of those made a difference that cycle but it didnt hurt. GL to you.

That would be exactly what is causing the issue. It attempts to correct a hormone issue where there may not be one and can actually cause more harm. Your OB should know that.

Well, it hasn't harmed me and my OB didn't have a problem with it.  According to internet lore, it's good for women with irregular/unusual cycles and less so for women with "normal" cycles.  Personally, mine have always been short.  FWIW, my LP lengthened by a few days after taking Fertilaid & starting acupuncture.  It used to be 10-11 (barely, with heavy spotting before that) and now it is 12-13 -- but I didn't mention it earlier because I can't attribute it to the Fertilaid, since I started acupuncture around the same time.

I agree with GM's post and I did take Fertilaid the cycle I got pregnant last spring.  I know it takes several cycles to "work", but if you look at my charts prior to the BFP chart, they are drastically different in the LP.  I personally think it helped, but it could also be a coincidence.

I have regular cycles and ovulate regularly. I have a 14 day LP, but still have a possible hormonal imbalance and LPD due to the spotting.  I am taking Fertilaid and Fertilitea again this cycle and I already notice a difference in my libido and cm. I don't know if it works or if it is just an expensive prenatal vitamin, but until we are certain where we are going to go as far as treatment, I am going to give it another try. I am also looking into acupuncture. Good luck!!
