Upstate NY Babies

Irene

Anyone bracing for the hurricane?  Expecially you Albany ladies?  We decided to cancel out camping trip :-(  After we canceled it last week due to rain and DH not feeling well.  I am slightly concerned about it hitting NYC and what it will do to the economic markets around the state, lightly considering running to the store for some extra shelf stable foods just in case supplies are short next week.  Anyone else thinking about it?  Or am I just crazy?

Re: Irene

i seriously live in a bubble sometimes...are we supposed to get bad weather?

  • I haven't been, but that might be because I know pretty much nothing about this storm, aside from the fact that it exists.

  • we are in VA beach at the moment, so yeah we are thinking about it.  ;)
  • I am not so much concerned about what will happen here in Syracuse, but I certainly am not going to be out in my pop-up camper anywhere in NYS for the storm.  I am just a little concerned of any potential effect it will have on other parts of the state and if there will be supply issues.  Like the EXTREME threat to NYC and Albany.  I'm just wondering if the state is prepared for a Cat 1 hurricane.  I think I will just do my weekly shopping on Sunday instead of Wed.

  • I'm more worried for my ILS (and SIL and her fam)---they are going to St Lucia on Saturday and flying through NYC....they're really worried they'll either get stuck in NYC or the trip will be cancelled.  We'll see!
  • I truly didn't realize just how big this storm was until I was talking to DH about it last night.  I'll be doing my normal grocery shopping but I might go after work tonight instead of tomorrow or Sunday.  I don't know what else to do to prepare, I guess I'll talk to DH about it today.

  • I am running out today to grab batteries, candles, bottled water, etc. I'm going to stock up on some cannned goods- just in case...

My main concern is L~ he doesnt get that it's raining- and he'll cry to go outside...I might do a dollar store stop to grab some small new toys to pull out and keep his attention...

My DH thinks I'm being silly...he thinks its just going to stay over water and not come close enough to do any real damage...*we shall see*

not really this far west.... according to Andy Parker just some cooler/cloudier weather, some gusty winds and a chance of a shower on Sunday.

  • Two of our neighbors just got in their cars with all the kids in tow for a week in Outer Banks North Carolina.  I hope they have alternate plans for the first few days and a back up if the damage is too bad.  As of last night, the kids were over to my house playing and said that they were still going straight to NC!
  • I'm in Schenectady/Albany, where we are supposed to get 50-70mph winds and 6" of rain, per the latest update I saw on the TV earlier. We do get flooding in some areas near the river here when it's bad, but not really @ my home. I assume the worst we may get is loss of power, if anything happens? That freaks out my daughter (who has to sleep with a fan) so it'd me a mess at night time.  But, I'll take that over what NC is getting.. eeeekkkk.

Um, where is their logic?  I get that missing your vacation sucks but if it were me, I'd wait a few days.

  • One of my other neighbors just stopped by to ask if she was crazy or if they were crazy for going.  Sure enough, she said she watched all three house full of people climb in their cars this morning and start driving south!  She said she had to refrain from running out the door and stopping them to ask if they were all insane!
  • if they are going to NC they will hit the rain and crap but they could go west and down.  thats what we did coming home.  the storm is basically hitting that area now so at thiks point i would be more concerned with the damage to the rental.  we dealt with this all growing up, my parents always took us on vacation at the end of august.  we were only evacuated once.
