How to get baby to poop & ear piercing question...

Oooo my its been a while since I've been on here, I hope everyone {and everyones little ones} are doing good! I have two quick questions...

1} Sophie hasn't pooped in about a week. :x

She seems just fine, but its starting to worry me a bit... I called her pedi. a few weeks ago because she was pooping every other day {around 8 weeks} which they said is nothing to worry about as long as when she DOES go- its not solid. She'll be 12 weeks friday, and like I said- its been about a week. Her number of feedings a day hasn't changed a bit, and shes getting chunky so I know shes growing fine... But shes on straight BM, I BF from time to time- but mostly pump... So what gives- I thought it was a natural laxative?? ANY suggestions? I've tried rubbing her belly, moving her legs in bicycle motion, I even tried Karo syrup in a bottle yesterday... Nothing. HELP!

2} Im looking to get her ears pierced, where is the best place to get it done? She'll be 3 months tomorrow

Thanks ladies for the help, hope all is going well for everyone!

Re: How to get baby to poop & ear piercing question...

  • I would try taking her temp rectally, sometimes that gets things mving. Also, we did a suppository for DD when she took a week to go as a little one. It's a glycerin supp and we were told to cut it in half lengthwise. Sometimes it worked and others it didn't, it won't dissolve so don't be freaked out, lol. I don't remember how old she was but we were also told we could give apple juice, small amt, to help her go. I'd try giving your pedi's RN a call to see if they have any suggestions.

When we went for our 2 month check up w/DS we told her he goes about every 3-4 days and our pedi said it's totally normal for BF babies to go up to a week w/out going b/c the BM slows their digestive tract down. She said as long as they're not uncomfortable it's ok. GL!!

  • Harry was constipated (hadn't pooped in 2 days, he usually goes every morning) so at 9am I gave him an ounce on water and exactly 2hrs later he pooped and isn't fussy anymore. I also have done the thermometer. Take some Vaseline and put it on the narrow part then slowly slide it in her bum, only just the tip and slightly wiggle it for a few seconds then remove. But for me the water does it every time. Other moms I know have given their babies an ounce or two of prune juice and it does the trick.

  • Well thats good to hear that your pedi said that as well, as long as they are not uncomfortable she should be fine... I'll give it another day or two, then try taking her temp. Thank you

  • DS went as long as 8 days without pooping a couple times. When he did poop, it was normal and he was acting fine and content the whole time. Also, he is only on BM that I pump. Sometimes he goes less than 8 days, but since his poops are still soft and normal for a breastfed baby, I'm not concerned and neither is his ped.

  • not sure about the poop thing but out Pedi doesn't do ear piercing so I asked the pedi if it was fine to go to Claires and they said yeah. That is where we went. Just bring her shot records...

DD cried for less than 2 minutes and passed out in the car on the way home. Her 2 month shots were wayyy more traumatic.

  • Just talked to my pedi today about poop since mine is always a once a week kind of kid. Said it was totally normal as long as when he went it wasnt solid. Going any longer than a week may require rectal stimulation like a supository cut in half. I like what pp said about doing a rectal temp.
