Babies on the Brain

Random Fashion Ramblings. Yes, I'm bored.

My next job isn't due until September 13th, sooo....

I'm really bad at fashion.  I mean BAD.  I'm wearing a pair of jeans with crocs sandals and a t-shirt right now.

When I see an outfit put together, I can tell if it looks good or not, but I couldn't put it together.  With the dresses and shoes and whatnot in my post below, I know well enough not to put a purple shoe with a green dress, but when you all say 'metallic'- I have no idea if gold, silver, pewter, whatever would work better with it.

Also, I like the look of accessorizing an outfit with purple in it with gold jewelry, but I can't wear that around here without someone saying, "Geaux Tigers!" because of course down here anything with purple and gold HAS to be attached to LSU.

Lastly- I saw y'all posting about leggings and skirts the other day.  I have no idea how to build an outfit with leggings or tights without looking completely silly.  Any guidance in that dept would be much appreciated.

I get jealous of all the leggings/tights/skinny jean/boot posts.  I have no azz and can't wear any of those things.  I end up looking like I've got a load in my britches from them sagging where my butt should be.  Sad

  • The thing about metallic shoes is that most metallics will match that outfit. Probably not a shimmery copper. But silver or gold would work. I think if you incorporate the green with purple & gold, it wouldn't be LSU-y.

I wear leggings and tights with tunics or dresses. Anything that goes at least halfway down my thighs. Just use leggings like you would tights. I wear flats but you could also do boots or low heels.

No, but it'd be mardi gras-y

I've got butt, but I also have super lumpy thighs to match, so that causes a problem with these outfits.

  • I found a cute website where you can "match up" and create outfits. Its a neat way to see if things do look good together and they are real clothes so you can create an outfit and figure out exactly where to get it and how much it is. plus you can look at other people's designs and get inspiration for outfits ( and see how much and where you can find them as well)  the site is here:

    https://www.polyvore.com/cgi/home-new?bid=27306fa

and to create a new "set" and play with designs all you have to do is click create in the upper toolbar. This is just a fun little website that helps pass time and give me fashion ideas. Hope it helps!

  • I suck at accessorizing.  I can put clothes together ok.  I just don't care as much as I used to.
  • I can wear tights/leggings with a knee lenth skirt and look okay. But if I put it with a short skirt I look like a lollipop. Before getting pregnant I carried all my weight around the middle and had skinny chicken legs, so I had to dress to sort of counter act that.

  • I'm with you there. I posted shoe suggestions anyways, because it sounded fun.

Probably with the purple dress. Not the green one, IMO.

ETA: I am only talking about shoes. You should not do Gold as a color in the overall wedding. :)

  • Where do you live? My biggest pointer, if you're really bad at putting together outfits is to go to Nordstrom and talk to a personal shopper. They don't charge, and they can really help.

Also, those silly TodayShow segments help too. So do Cosmo articles about making 30 outfits out of 12 pieces or whatever.

    What is your body type?

Leggings: I'm a big girl and I love them. I always make sure I'm wearing a LONG tunic or shorter dress over (re: bum and hips are covered) and I usually have a belt with them to create accent on my waist.

Yeah, I kind of want those shoes now. I don't think I'd have occasion to wear them, though.

There's no Nordstrom with in at least 100 miles of Louisiana. :o(

When does the Today Show come on?  I'm at work 8-5 CST M-F.  I could always check the site for clips though.

As for body type, I don't know how to identify it.  Larger framed and frumpy?  I'm 5'9ish, sizes 12/14.

  • I'm plus sized, but I'm still able to pull off the tights/leggings look. I do carry my weight around my middle, but like ohashlet said, a belt can do wonders for creating a waist.

The majority of the tunics that I wear with leggings are a linen or cotton fabric. I don't like anything that clings because that obviously shows all flaws. I have some "sheer" tunics I wear in the summer, but they aren't really clingy and I wear a tank top under them.

I've never tried boots, I have big calves from dancing and playing soccer til I was 18, so I usually stick with flats. One thing I AM really bad at is accessorizing. I never know what looks good with what. So I usually stick to a basic necklace and a basic pair of earrings.

  • I wear leggings 75% of the time, but I still don't know what I'm doing. I do know that I need to have my arse and a good portion of my thighs covered if I'm going out in public wearing them. I badly want to find a cute belt to accentuate my waist, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I've never thought about seeing a personal shopper at Nords, but I never shop there either.

  • I second the personal shopper. I made bff use the one at Macy's and it was fantastic. She changed to a dressier job and needed suits and coordinates. They took her size and coloring info and she met with them a week later. They explained why they were suggesting certain things and avoiding others, so I really liked that part. Plus they wrote down all the combos, so she can remember what went with what.
