Success after IF

What are some things you will splurge on?

Me:

Pants/jeans.  I am a total pear shape , and even when I am thinner, I have a hard time finding things I feel look flattering.  So when I find something- I get it.

Shoes- not really fun-trendy-going out shoes anymore, but ones that are comfy ( and not too fug!) as I really never sit down at work.

  • I just splurged on a pair of Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots! Biggest splurge ever. ;)

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

    This!

I also spend more on the kid's clothes and photography.  Caroline has lots of heirloom dresses, and Parker will have the same (not dresses, obviously).  I make up for that by getting most of her 'regular' clothes at a deep discount at Kohl;s.

I am addicted to our photographer.  She is amazing, and comes to my house and takes a ton of pics and I love her much, much, much.

  • Food and wine.  That's pretty much it. I have a hard time pulling the trigger on full priced things often.

  • I get my hair cut and colored every 6 weeks. Is it expensive - yes. Do it love it - YES!
TTC since 10/06 - Went to RE after 6 months of TTC due to AMA -Diagnosed with MIF 5/07, only option IVF with ICSI - IVF #1 cancelled due to cyst, never got to ER - IVF #1.5 10/07, BFP - Robert Andrew born 7/30/08 Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers
  • My biggest splurge was a purse for work - I travel to NY from time to time and have to look the part of a badas$ portfolio manager. Also, I did it to impress OrangeSmoke. ;)

But I totally agree on the pants/jeans - if they fit well, I need to own them because not a lot fits me well!

  • Salon services... I have had bad experiences trying to save money there :)

Shoes for DD... cheap shoes just don't work for her, and I want her to be comfortable (I just wish I wasn't such a fan of shoes... :) )

    Produce and meat

  • Really nice boots.

  • Clothes- I'm a clothes snob- they have to come from a name brand store- not an outlet or not like a TJ Maxx or Ross.

Sunglasses- I spend WAY too much on sunglasses

Purses- I love so many- but usualy LV, Dior, or Chanel

Beauty Products- I will only buy MAC

    Sigh... those are pretty! :)

(sigh because shoe shopping is not at all compatible with potentially moving to a new house and trying to get pregnant, potentially with twins! Wink)

  • I tend to splurge more on other people than myself because I have killer guilt and buyers remorse, but i can justify it on other people. When I do do it for myself, it was usually clothes, or hair cut and color. Now it is babywearing wraps. And DD's birthday party.

TOTALLY AGREE on the shoes for DD- good shoes are so important.

And Salon Services- I had a bad experince when my hair turned pink from trying to let my friend dye it in college- I have learned my lesson.

  • LOL my big splurge is I only buy Viva paper towels. I really live on the edge don't I?

I guess we splurge when we get a date night and go to a nice restaurant. I'm not big on materialist things because like pp I was raised with a single mom who barely could make ends meet. I think of everything as a car payment!

This is me too. I grew up with a single mom that made about $100 more than "poverty" level so being somewhat comfortable (a little better than pay check to pay check) is still new to me. A massage for a gift or the occasional pedicure is about as much splurge as I do. I'm more likely to make sure my kids have good shoes and good car seats than to spend money on myself. My husband (whose dad is fairly well off) is the same way. He'll guilt himself into a tizzy over a $45 video game.

  • i am all about spending more on a few items vs. buying a lot of big items.

i will splurge on shoes and handbags because i see them as long term purchases. foundation wardrobe pieces also fall in this category like a little black dress, a great suit etc.

i am also a whore for overpriced sweat pants. i have never met a lululemon pant i didn't like and am also hooked on these cotton sweats by aiko. totally overpriced for what they are but i love them.

i also like "fancy" plain t-shirts. which is ridiculous because no one can tell the difference. however i don't consider these a splurge as the brands i like i can get wholesale through friends, so it ends up being comprable to gap pricing.

and vacations, i love me a fancy resort/hotel.

imageAlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers
  • Handbags - I know they're not necessary but I really love fancy bags. Beauty products (particularly skincare as I'm getting older). I've noticed a very obvious difference between drugstore brands and higher end brands, so much that I get comments on my skin when I'm using the fancy stuff. Sometimes shoes, if I know I'll wear them a lot. I have a pair of Cole Haan ballet flats that I've work almost daily in the summer since 2006. But then a significant portion of my wardrobe is from Target so I think it evens out.
    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • Not much, really. An occasional mani/pedi or nice dinner out. We tend to splurge more on food/wine than anything else and even that is rare these days.

Like pp I grew up pretty poor so it's hard for me to spend money on material things that I don't see as needs.

Ditto lululemon and hotels too, didn't think of those!

  • Dining out.   A really really good meal is SO worth it to me/us.

My hair color.   I could probably get it done for less, but I have a serious relationship with my colorist, and cannot imagine not having her to save my hair color from itself.   :-)

DH splurges on work clothes and shoes - but he wears the tar out of them, so he needs the good stuff, and only buys a couple times per year.    I, on the other hand, have always had a hard time spending money on clothes.

This makes me feel better....as I read the responses, I was trying to think of what I don't splurge on!  Clothes (incl jeans), shoes/boots, handbags and makeup/skincare are the items I would say I splurge on.  I'm sure my husband would say there are many more items on my splurge list!

  • Food and vacations. There is nothing better to me than a relaxing vacay at a nice resort. I am a Ritz Carlton girl through and through!

When I was thin, I tended to splurge more on clothes, but now I figure why bother when I dislike the way I look so much.

I used to love to splurge on DH's work wardrobe (I am sucker for him in a nice suit, monogrammed, slim fit Brooks Brothers shirt and silk tie), but now he can go business casual and it's just not the same.

  • Ummmm, not much.

I once bought a very pricey sewing machine, and I am just now getting over the gulit even though I've used it a ton, saved a ton of money by making things and not buying them, and had it 5 years.

Other than that, we go to Disney World even though it is pricey, because we love it. So that's about it.
