SBay ladies - car seat check?

We installed the car seat base late last week and I called around to all of the inspection places that apply to me from this website - https://www.sccfd.org/pub_ed/car_seats.html to try and make an appt to get it checked.  People are either not calling me back or only giving me appt options weeks after my due date.  Was there anywhere that you found that did checks on short notice or took walk ins?

  • I had the exact same problem.  I pleaded with someone at Tiny Tots (and was very, very polite to her on the phone) and she fit me into their next date, even though it was full.  So you could pull the late-pregnancy card, I suppose.  :)

But if you can't get in before the baby arrives, don't stress it.  Looking back, we knew our carseat was nice and tight in the seat, and my husband could have taken it to be checked a couple of weeks after she arrived, because it's not like we really got out of the house right away anyway (aside from that first dr's appointment).  If you don't get it checked before your due date, it's not the end of the world- just get it checked as soon as you're able.

  • I know it's not in the Sbay but just FYI if you're up north- I'm getting mine checked tomorrow at the Ingleside police station here in SF. I called today and talked to the officer and he told me to call hiim anytime this week and to give him an hour's notice and he'd help me out.

I didn't know Tiny Tots did them.  It looks like their next check day is 9/2 so I'll call them tomorrow and hope they can fit me in!

  • LPCH was booked for August and September, no way to fit anyone in, same thing with Tiny Tots but thankfully I got a callback from Milpitas PD and even though they were booked all through next month took pity on me and squeezed me in yesterday afternoon.  I feel so relieved now, especially because we had the seat attached with the car brackets in the middle seat and that wasn't the safest option for our car, using the middle seat belt is, so they fixed it for us.

Yay!  See?  People take pity on a 9-months-pregnant lady.  :)

  • Some fire stations do this.  Check with your city.  I think Mountain View does it but I don't know if its a specific station.
