Hot Sauce Mom - WDYT?

Google the hotsauce mom and look at the video (from Dr. Phil show).  Come back and tell me what you think...I don't want to bias.

Re: Hot Sauce Mom - WDYT?

  • I should forewarn/disclaimer, it is hard to watch.

  • Pretty douchey.

Also, I want my kid to know that hot sauce is awesome.

  • I couldn't watch it but I read the article that went along with it.  Honestly, I have felt like I was that far at the end of my rope with Emma.  And while I have never poured hotsauce down her throat or made her take a cold shower I have been desperate enough for some kind of break through in her behavior that I probably would have done just about anything.

I have the utmost confidence in myself that I love, as pure and deep and unconditional as humanly possible, I LOVE Emma.  And I think that there have been times that my fear for her, my desire to just want her life to be easier, better, whatever, has made me a little crazy.

I don't know anything about that lady so I can't speak for her situation.

  • I couldn't watch it but, read the story.

I think abuse, is abuse, is abuse. You are the adult. You have to remain the adult. As mad as you ever get, you have to have the self control to not induce pain or shock to make YOU feel better or see a result YOU are looking for. If you can't then I absolutely believe you need to get help and you need someone to step in on the behalf of the child.

My mom was raised in several homes {she was adopted/fostered with abuse} and the lasting effects it has had on her for whatever reasons they felt it "ok" to treat her that was has left her with scars she still carries as an adult.

  • I think the hot sauce is bad enough, but its the screaming in the face that goes along with it that takes it over the edge.

Not sure if the tone comes across on my post but I do think that it was definitely abusive.

  • Wow, that was hard to watch!!  I know that kids can be difficult to handle.  My two can try me at times, but using hot sauce and cold showers as punishment is just abusive, imo.  I felt so bad for that little boy.

  • after reading your replies I don't think I want to watch that.  Sounds horrible.
  • Since I am not yet a mom and cannot know how your children sometimes push your buttons, I cannot imagine physically harming my child for any reason.  This is definitely child abuse and I hope she faces the consequences for her actions.

  • I actually saw this on dr phil and I'm pretty sure it was well over a year ago. I don't ever watch dr phil but I turned on the tv and it was on so I got caught up in watchign it. It was horrible! I was actually surprised at the time that no one had turned her in for child abuse. I understand being at your wits in but that's when you call someone else in to help you figure out what to do with your child. Get professional help.

  • When my sister was a baby/toddler age, younger than 2, I think, so I was around 3, she accidentally got hold of a hot pepper (my parents grew them in the garden) and got it all over herself, her face, her eyes, hands, just all over.  Its one of my earliest memories and I can still hear the screaming in my head.  I remember my parents frantic to get her washed off and to help her.  Yesterday Isaac got into my spices and had the hot sauce bottle in his hands (top was on) and I was scared to death.  I could never expose my child to hot sauce on purpose unless they wanted to try it as a food item.
  • The really scary part to me is this is what she did while someone was filming her.  Can you imagine what she does when the camera is not on?  I only saw a few clips on the news but to me its abuse and she should go to jail for it.

I'm not saying as a mother I have never gotten mad and done something I regretted (for me personally its usually just yelling at Adam over something silly), but I do realize it was wrong of me and make every effort to ensure I don't do it again.

  • Didn't I read somewhere that she only did this to get on Dr. Phil's show? what kind of crazy woman would do that to her child to get on tv? I really do hope she pays for her actions. Ridiculous!
