I didn't get to have a nursery with DS #1 because we lived in a one bedroom apt at the time. So when we moved when he was 1 year old we bought a dump of a house and did tons of renos ourselves. Needless to say when you do all the repairs in the walls, drywall, paint etc. you get nervous about putting up decorations with nails or otherwise. Anyhoo I put up decals in his room and I figured if they didn't remove well no biggie we'll repaint someday anyway since its painted a babyish green.
But I want to put some up in my room for DS #2 while his in our room, but I am worried that even though they all say removable they won't be so easy to remove. Has anyone had experience with these after they have been up a while? Did they rip off paint or texture?
By the way, my hubby thinks I should just put decorations up because now we are pros at wall repairs, but for some reason, knowing all the work it took makes me apprehensive and indecisive about shelving, picture frames etc.
Re: removable decals?
Edited - double post, I don't know what happened. Maybe it was the stupid earthquake. LOL. Sorry
It really depends on the type of decals that you get -- the cheapie ones that you can buy at most stores are generally really easy to remove.
We have the cutest Eric Carle (Very Hungry Caterpillar & Brown Bear, Brown Bear) decals from Target in our play room. They're definitely removable, as I've taken them off and moved them to a different place on the wall. The trade-off is that they look like decals -- you can see a definite clear border around the picture. But they're still great.
In DS2's nursery, we have custom vinyl decals from Etsy. These are definitely not re-usable. You have to use a hairdryer to get them off, and they can't be moved to a different place on the wall. But they look amazing, like they were hand painted directly onto the wall. We haven't tried to remove them, obviously, but I've heard that they come off smoothly if you follow the instructions.
And definitely ditto the PP -- wash down the walls and dry thoroughly. And if you've recently painted, it's recommended to wait a few weeks before putting up decals.
Actually I was worried that they would cause a problem in 6-9months when I wanted to remove them from my bedroom as DS #2 will probably go into his own room then. I don't care so much if they can't be reused, just whether or not they will peel my paint/texture when I take them off. The carters ones I put up in DS #1 room last year haven't had any issues not sticking or peeling off on their own. I am worried that they will be a problem to remove when we are ready.
Thanks for all the input ladies!
