Georgia Babies

one more baby food question....

so yesterday we did the rice (see post below) and today I just switched it over to the oatmeal (another huge success, this boy is freaking hungry)....do I need to wait 3 days until I can start veggies or can I just go for it?

Re: one more baby food question....

  • Unless you have reasons to be concerned with an allergy I don't think you need to wait the 3 days.  We didn't wait 3 days between introducing new foods with Brady and he did fine.  Good luck with that hungry boy!

  • I think I remember my pedi telling me I really didn't have to wait more than 24-48 hours between change-ups. It was mostly to determine if a specific food caused an allergic reaction or not. I had heard somewhere to wait four days and she laughed that it would take forever at that rate.

  • I followed more of a 24 hour rule but we have no allergies in either family so I wasn't really worried.

  • With Easton I did kind of a 24-48 hour rule, no allergies. So, I attempted the same with Ellie Brooke...she is allergic to TONS of stuff. No allergies on either side of the family, every kid is just different I guess.

  • Feed that poor skinny baby. ;)

We went straight to food with Jack. We did more of a 24 hr thing with foods with him.

  • We dove right in.  I may have waited 24 hrs in between new stuff, but after a week or so w/ no sign of allergies, we just went for it.  Man, I really have become a lax 2nd time mom!

  • Oh man, I can't believe it's time for solid food!!  I'm actually waiting till we get back from Disney (she'll be 5.5 months) to start, just so there's less to deal with down there...and in general I wait, again because I'm lazy and it's easier to just nurse!

I do think I'll be waiting the 3 days between foods...and not so much that I'm worried about allergies, but more because I'm planning to make her food.  So I imagine if I make say, a sweet potato and divide it up, it would be enough for a few days and then I'll make the next thing.  We'll see I guess, at some point she'll want more variety in her days, but I'll worry about that later :)

  • We skipped the rice altogether, but I think with the cereals you don't really need to be concerned unless there is a history of food allergies.

  • We did the 24 hour rule with both boys since neither DH nor I have any allergies. We moved onto fruits first and now are doing veggies.

  • The first week we stuck with orange foods like our pedi suggested - until Alice actually started turning orange (and no, I'm not kidding!).  After that we just went for it too.  I figured the allergy issue is really to determine what is causing the reaction not to prevent reactions from happening, and since we don't have a history of food allergies in the family I wasn't too concerned.
