Anyone else still have a food Aversion?

I am over 12 weeks now, and I still feel too nauseous most days to want to eat anything nutritious. I cannot eat any chicken or most proteins. I was able to eat pulled pork yesterday, but I cannot guarantee every what I will/can eat from day to day. I thought I was supposed to want to eat everything, but I can't even get excited about eating. I mostly force feed myself anything healthy, though most things turn my stomach just thinking about them. Should this still be happening? Am I doomed for my whole pregnancy? I really wish this would stop. I also still cannot drink enough water without it making me sick. I just want my LO to be healthy, but I feel like I am being a bad mommy already.

  • I can't stand bacon right now.  So far that is all I can't eat.  Which is sad, cause I eat everything....and I mean EVERYTHING else....

  • Nothing so far for me but with my first child, aversions started at about 12 weeks and lasted till about 16weeks!  Good luck, I hope your body starts letting you eat yummy and healthy food again!!
  • Awe you're doing just fine! I told my Dr that meats make me wanna barf, she told me not to worry about it, and take one extra vitamin (I take the gummies) until I can eat meat again. She wasn't concerned at all. I force myself to eat every few hours, I have no appetite either, thankfully I love fruit, so it's been a blessing. Do what  you can, it will all be ok. If you're really concerned talk to your Dr.

  • I'm 12w3days too, my ticker is a little behind, and I'm a lot better than I was. I do still have some sickness especially during certain times of day. In addition, my appetite is pretty specific. I have a hard time just going to the kitchen and eating what's there. I have to ask myself what I want and really think about it. I take Zofran, and it actually helps out a lot for the most part. I eat at 2x a day with snacks.

I've been struggling with water and hydration the whole time. I can't drink plain water. I usually squeeze about 1/2 a lemon into it and it makes it much easier. I have to buy lemons by the bag,but it's definitely worth it. I hope you feel better soon.

  • I'm not quite 12w yet but I'm 10 and food aversions are still going strong. I think that its ok as long as you find a way to get down the right amount of water. I talked with my DR because I've also seen a noticeable weight loss and she said that baby pretty much acts like a parasite and will take what it needs. Pretty much your body will put baby first and you second when it comes to nutrition.

Maybe you can try flavoring your water to make it more appealing? I usually put a lemon wedge in mine, or you could make some peppermint tea.

  • I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow, and certain foods still gross me out as well. I have been noticing that my appetite has been picking up, but the healthy stuff really isn't appealing to me yet... especially veggies. Ugh.

  • I still can't stand the smell of fish! The other day someone in my apt building was cooking it and I smelled it in the hallway - I thought I was really going to heave!

  • I can't eat/see/or speak of anything meat right now and its been that way for a couple of weeks.  Water makes me sick if I drink too much of it and my vitamins make me gag every time I try to swallow them.  Being healthy and doing what I'm supposed to be doing is VERY hard these days!

This!  I usually love bacon (i love a good blt) but right now the sight/smell of it just completely turns my stomach.  It's the only thing that seems to though, i think i've eaten the entire contents of the kitchen in the past 2 weeks alone.

  • Things that have made me throw up: water, Gatorade, string cheese, peanut butter.  These things I cannot eat all.  Occasional sips of water works, but it turns out that carbonation is vital for my ability to stomach it.

Things I can't eat much of: processed sugars (ie, frosting makes me want to vomit) and most meats.

Since you're having a problem with proteins in general, try beans.  Edemame (soy beans in the pods that have been steamed and salted) go down easier than anything else I've eaten since getting pregnant.  Refried beans have worked in moderation, as have other more fibrous beans. Also, hummos is going down easily and actually seems to settle my stomach.

Other than that, fruits and veggies are going down really easily, as are simple carbs.  Most of my liquid content is coming from watermelon, for example.  It really does a number on your digestive system, though.

  • Prior to this week, I HAD to have protein at every meal. Since this weekend, I don't really want it at all...

  • I HATE meat, especially chicken. Just typing it makes me gag! YUCKO! I told my doctor and he is worried about protein, especially since I throw up 2-3 times a week, but I'm pretty sure baby is still getting enough! Hope this ends soon...

  • ah. this makes me feel better. I can't stand meat right now either. I've gone to being practically a total veggie. I eat pb&j for breakfast and can't get enough rice and pasta, which I used to never eat.

  • i don't know if i would say you are "doomed"..BUT i am feeling your pain. NOTHING looks good to me still! i'm in my 12th week and the only things i can choke down are bland foods with little taste. (kashi cereals, regular cheerios, whole grain toast...) I am trying to stay positive that it'll all be worth it. :) OR i will just hate cereal in 7 months.
