We've been looking for a glider, but I generally don't like the look of them and if we're gonna spend the money I'd rather it be on something we can keep to use in the living room. Unfortunately the really nice ones like that are $400+. So we were thinking of getting a Poang chair from Ikea instead. Anyone else try this?
Re: Anyone using a Poang chair instead of a glider?
I totally thought about it...until I sat in one again and realized how low they are.
I am. I got a poang rocker. The gliders were so expensive, and I'd heard that while some people use theirs all the time and love it, others did not. So we got a poang, which we had wanted anyway, and decided that if I'm doing a lot of rocking and want something more comfy then we can talk about spending the money.
I haven't rocked yet w/LO so I can't tell you how it works for nursing, but it looks cute! LOL
Here's one of my nursery pics.

We have a glider but we also have a Poang in our living room. We spent hours rocking in it with DS - he loved it and it was comfy for us as well. It is low and more difficult to get out of than a glider, but like anything with a baby, you get used to it and soon don't even think twice about it.
Definitely get the ottoman though as well ... having a place for your feet makes all the difference.
I got the Poang rocker a few months ago. We had been looking at gliders, but they were just so ridiculously expensive that we decided to give the Poang a shot first. I only have the chair, not the footrest, but so far it has been pretty comfy for me to sit in. If it doesn't end up being comfy enough when baby gets here, well, it wasn't so expensive that I'd feel awful about replacing it (and also I can just stick it in the living room for company or whatever). But yeah, so far, so good.
edit: sorry, I have the regular poang, not the rocker, just the bouncy one.
Also, I would add to be careful when getting out of the chair, because sometimes I lean too far forward and start to tip myself. But I still like the chair a lot.
Yes! I am. Just the regular Poang. I moved it from the living room into baby's room and added a Medela footstool that slides underneath the chair when not in use. I'm limited on space in the nursery, since it is also my office. It's the most comfortable chair in our house for me right now!
I tried the Poang rocker at IKEA last weekend, just to see how it compared to the regular chair. I didn't like it. The angle of the rocker makes you sit lower and farther back. I like the bouncing action and the angle of the regular one better.
Good luck!
I'm glad I posted, thanks everyone! I think we will make sure to get either a Poang stool or another footstool. I've had my eye on this nursing stool:
