Infertility

Do you still do timed intercourse month after month?

We have obviously done it for some time, taken a break, did it again, and on and on.  It gets tedious but I can't help but think that we HAVE to do it!

How do you get past the tediousness of it?  It also sucks when you have a "perfect" month and nada.

Re: Do you still do timed intercourse month after month?

  • Hi!  Do you have an infertility diagnosis?  Most of us on this board have moved to IUI or IVF so we are no longer doing timed intercourse.  The answer to your question, is <35 try for a year.  Over 35 try for six months.  Good luck to you.  You could also try posting this on TTTC.  :)

  • I do.  Pituitary adenoma and DH has morphology issues.  We are in a holding pattern as to what course to take next (have done IUI etc.).  I always think that TI can't hurt.  Just curious if others with IF still do TI in between treatments

Oh! I understand now.  I didn't realize you were between cycles.  Awhile ago my RE said TI day 10,12,14 (if you ovulate around the 14th) 16 to be safe. This is what we try to stick to but you're right it does get pretty old.  Good luck.

  • I always do TI when I'm between cycles.  My cycles are long, and opks don't work for me.  So it does get very tedious.  Sometimes, I'll try to dress up sexy to get in the mood, other times we use pre-seed, do it quick and call it a night.

  • We still do.  This is probably to much information, but You know how they say that nature natually makes you more susceptible to advances during your fertile time?  Well, I think this is definitely true for me.  My cm is pretty nil most of the rest of month so I am naturally a little more interested in quality time when I'm not dry as a bone down there. Embarrassed Might as well take advantage of it.

  • I still chart, but mainly just as a way to keep my cycles, feelings, and symptoms organized. As for the timed intercourse we're slowly getting back to having sex for fun until I have an emotional breakdown during it. TI has about a 1% chance of ever working for us, which doesn't compound, so it's 1% every month.

Between cramps, avoiding during an ART cycle, and the charting it's nice to begin to still have that connection and be able to act on my urges.

  • We are taking a two cycle break after this IUI, and I O like clockwork so yes, we'll do TI.  I am not particularly hopeful for it working, but can't hurt, ya know?

  • We're doing non medicated cycles right now as we wait to see if the Clomid therapy helps MH. We're still doing TI each cycle since I O on my own well but it sucks because I'm still just as sad as ever when it ends each month. You'd think I'd know better since the IF uro gave us like a 5% chance of conceiving on our own but I can't help but hope.

  • Since we are currently trying to improve H's swimmers and save for IVF, I still chart and we still try for TI. We were told we have less than a 3% chance of getting pregnant without help.

  • Nope.

We haven't done TI since...like last November?

I've realized that if I can't get pregnant from 2 years of fertility treatments, I can't get pregnant and it is what it is.

  • We are sort of doing it now for the first time since the IF stuff started. I was supposed to start my provera this past Monday for our first IUI cycle and when I went for my appt, they saw a small follicle growing. They checked it Friday morning and said it was huge and we were going to go ahead with the IUI, but sadly they called me that afternoon and said the hormone levels were not right to do the IUI :( So now they said just have lots of sex in case, but they aren't optimistic. They never thought anything would grow either, so you never know!

But how to make it seem unlike a chore- Just mind over matter in the end and once you get into it, hopefully the fun overtakes it.

  • If we're feeling it, sure, but our RE says the probability of that working is almost non-existent.

  • We don't, but we do still have sex between cycles.  I've stopped charting or taking OPKs, so I never know exactly when I ovulate.  We just have sex when we feel like it.
