C&P from the blog...
Today started out like any other day...until we hit the Target
check-out line. I started feeling hot and nauseous and a bit
lightheaded. I thought to myself, if I get the flu after getting a flu
shot this week, I am going to be miffed! I signed my name on the little
pad and started feeling worse. I started seeing the fuzzy,
bad-reception on TV thing and called out to Brett. The next thing I
remember was him yelling at me. I couldn't see or feel but I could
still hear. I had the bad-reception TV thing except for snow, it was
black and gray. Apparently, I passed out...in the Target check-out line!
I
finally came to, sitting on the floor with Brett holding me. I was hot,
sweaty and still having some issues seeing. The Target employees
brought us a wheelchair and a glass of ice water. This helped a lot and
I started feeling much better.
With the pregnancy we were
worried about the baby so we debated about going to the Doctor tomorrow
or straight to the Emergency Room today. So we headed over to Liberty
hospital to get checked out. Brett called my parents to met us there so
that one of them could run home our cold groceries and put them up.
We
were at the hospital for about 3 hours! They took blood, I peed in a
cup, they checked by blood sugar and blood pressure. They did a
sonogram and the baby was moving around and had a good heartbeat! That
was a relief for us! They attempted to get a peek at the "parts" but
the baby wasn't cooperating! My blood sugar was a bit low, as with my
blood pressure so they recommended that I eat every few hours to keep
it up. They gave me a liter of fluids and performed an EKG, which was ok. All-in-all, it was extremely scary but we were glad we had everything checked out.
Brett
was amazing, from catching me when I passed out to explaining a lot of
the medical procedures and results. Most of all, he was right there
with me, holding my hand, making me laugh and telling me he loved me!
My parents were great...living so close to them is always so
appreciated when it comes to something like this! After doing the
grocery transfer, they both hung out with us in the room at the ER,
keeping us calm and laughing!
Terrifying day but everything looks ok,
I just have to keep an eye on the timing of my food intake and if I
start feeling that way again, make sure someone around me knows and can
help me get food or get help!
Re: Scary, Scary Day to Today...
I am so glad that you and the baby are doing okay! That is so scary! I'm glad your husband and parents were such great supports. Please take it extra easy this week and put your feet up as much as possible when you're home!
I have been getting dizzy more often the last few weeks. I have started carrying little Ziplocs of high-protein snacks (like trail mix or those True North snacks) in my purse and trying to remember to take bottled water with me on shopping trips, and that seems to help. It just doesn't seem like it should be a big deal to go out on errands, but pregnancy just gets your body so out-of-whack that it responds in funny (and scary!) ways.
Something similar happened to me early on in my pregnancy as well and it was a very scary experence. I was at school, outside with my class and all of a sudden I started to feel dizzy. I knew something just didnt feel right, so I called my kids and had them line up at the door as quick as they could. I didnt even do my head count, because by the time I made it back to my classroom door everything was starting to go black. Some how I managed to tell my class to wash their hands then sit down for a minute because I wasnt feeling well. I quickly sat in my chair and drank some water trying to cool myself down, because I was breaking out into a major sweat. I called up front to the office to get some ice and having someone come into my room so I can take care of myself. Everything was still black and fuzzy, but after the sweats I all of a sudden got the chills. After stepping out of my classroom I just continued to drink lots of water and I called DH. Luckly he was finished with an appt he had and came and got me. We went to my Dr. office, they took my blood pressure and said it was a little low, but wasnt bad. They told me to make sure I eat often with high protein foods and drink plenty of water.
That was my scary day, but besides blacking out I think what scared me even more was that I was at school with my class and what would have happened if I would have passed out completely?
Jen, you take care of yourself and keep some snacks in your purse at all times. I am glad everything is alright with both you and your baby.
