I'm heartbroken to say that I'm going to be leaving the board.
I started noticing some slight spotting a couple of days ago that got a little heaver and red this morning. I called my doctor because I'm Rh negative, and any time I bleed I'm supposed to get a shot of Rhogam. The doctor told me to come in and they would run some tests. Thankfully there was horrible traffic today between home and DH's work, so DH ended up giving up and decided to work from home, so he was home before I went to my appt and was able to go with me. I first went in to see the u/s technician. I could tell on the u/s screen that the baby was maybe a little bigger than when we saw it last week, but the tech wasn't saying much and just kept moving the camera around, taking measurements, moving around more, all while staying silent. Then she had me sit up and left to go get my doctor. When my doctor came in, they did another u/s and my doctor told me that it looked like the baby's heart stopped beating only a couple of days after my u/s last week (my original u/s was 9w0d and measured at 8w1d, today at 10w1d it measured at 8w4d). The u/s showed significant swelling around the baby.
The u/s tech and my doctor gave us a few minutes alone, then we went over to my doctor's office to discuss the options: (1) wait and let nature take its course, (2) speed up the process with a drug misoprostol, or (3) schedule D&C. DH and I chose option #2 and will begin that process on Sunday morning, as I am not prepared to deal with the pain just yet, and I would like to avoid surgery if possible. I go in for a follow up appointment with my doctor on Monday and if the drugs were not successful, she will schedule a D&C later in the week.
The doctor really doesn't know what the cause of the miscarriage is, saying it could have been a chromosomal abnormality or could have been because of my thyroid. She has recommended that I remain on my heightened dosage of thyroid meds, follow up on my levels in 4 weeks, and to wait to TTC until we get those levels managed and until my uterus has had time to heal, about two months.
I'm really sad to be leaving all of you ladies and I'm so sorry to add one more frightening story on this board. I really hope this is the last of the bad news on here. I'm going to take a hiatus from The Bump for a while, but if I decide to come back, I will definitely drop in and lurk on you all to see how you are doing. Best wishes and H&H 9 months to you all.
Re: Heartbroken (read with caution)
I am so so sorry. I am glad your husband was there with you. If you have any questions about D&C, please feel free to reach out. I've had 2 and they were really quite easy and enabled me to get some answers because the doctor had the tissue tested.
I wish you a speedy recovery and lots of good thoughts. Best wishes to you and your family. xo.
I am so sorry sweetie, I've been there and it's not anything anyone should ever have to experience. Take good care of yourself and don't give up, I hope to see you just a few months behind us and please do check in. I did that with my last two losses to see how the girls were.
((Hugs))
So sorry for your loss. T&P.
