Anyone get their NT scan yet?

I'm scheduled to come in for my NT scan on 8/30. I'm very nervous about it because my hCG levels were relatively high. This could mean that there is a potential risk for chromosomal defects.

For those of you who have gotten the NT scan already, how soon do you get the results?

Thanks,

Ronnie

  • Not yet, but it's on Monday and I was told I can expect the results in a week.

  • We live in South Africa, so things might be a bit different here (and you get an ultrasound with every visit if you're private healthcare!), but I went for an extra scan yesterday (no risks or whatever, but I'm VERY stressed and anxious, so he said I could come in for a talk and an extra scan to make sure baby's fine and to set my mind at ease). ANYWAY, so my NT scan is only booked for the 31st (12w6d), but he measured the baby's neck fluid on the scan yesterday (11w1d), and you get the measurements instantly. He explained to me that they don't want it to be more than 3mm, and mine was 1.5mm. He then also checked for facial bone structures, especially the nose, and if that's all present, then you have a minimal risk of Down's Syndrome. Then, if you want, you can also do all the blood tests for other chromosomal abnormalities. We'll do that on the 31st. So the results of the bloodwork will obviously take a while before you get those, but the scan's results should be done while you're there.
  • The doctor who reviews the u/s results should tell you that same day what the measurement of the NT fold is.  As someone mentioned before anything about 3mm indicates an increased risk for downs, particularly if there is no visable nasal bone on the scan either. These are typically soft markers for downs which they will combined with AFP results to give you a percentage that the baby will be born with downs or some other similar chromosomal abnormality.

I wouldn't worry about the hCG levels and how indicative of chromosomal issues it is, I am not sure the reserach is complete on that really.
