2nd Trimester

22 weeks pregnant and gained 15 lbs.

Hi -- I'm only 22 weeks pregnant and have gained 15 lbs so far...I sure wish there was a way to tell how much of it is fluid, retention, etc.  Feeling very  large today.  Sorry for the vent just not feeling perky today.

I do zumba 6 days a week so I dont understand how I gained this much so far with exercise and watching what I eat.

Anyone else feel this way??? How do you get through it???

  • stop looking at the scale.  Your body will gain what it needs to gain.  As long as you're eating healthy and staying active you will be fine.  Since you are active you'll probably lose the weight super fast after delivery.  Nothing to worry about.  Just stop looking at the scale and know that your baby is growing strong inside.

  • I've gained 15 pounds and was tiny to begin with (5'2" and 105 lbs) so you'd think it would really show.  All I see in the mirror and all I hear from other people is that I'm "all belly" which is totally true...well belly and boobs :) Someone just five minutes ago said it looks like i swallowed a basketball haha.  Don't focus on the number, just focus on how you look and feel.

  • Oh.. let me make you feel better. =)  I am 17 weeks and have gained 16lbs.  Right there with you!!!  I am not working out as much as I would like to.. I've been trying to a couple times/week but I haven't been that successful. But I'm not sitting around pigging out either!

  • I'm 24 weeks and at my last visit at 21 weeks I had gained 12 lbs. No clue what I'm at now (but I know this week is a major growth spurt for the little one in there!). But I walk every day and eat mostly well so I don't worry about it (we don't actually own a scale). I know that with DS I gained a total of 22 lbs by the time I was in my last month, and usually with #2 you gain a little more! They say the norm is anywhere between 20 and 35 lbs and not to worry if you gain a little more or less as long as you feel well and are getting some activity and eating healthy Big Smile

  • I've gained 10 lbs so far and it doesn't seem like a lot to me and I'm glad it's only 10 lbs.  I gained close to 45 lbs with my DS so I'm hoping I don't get close to that at all this time around.  I did lose it all pretty fast and by the time DS was a year I was 10 lbs under what I was when I first got pg.  Don't worry you will definitely lose it fast and it will come off even faster if you breastfeed.

Agree! The important thing is that you're staying healthy by eating well and exercising. If you're doing these things and gaining, then clearly your body needs this weight.

  • at 21 weeks I've gained 16 lbs.  I was so proud of myself, at my last month's visit I had only gained 4.  But I definitely made up for it this time :/  Everywhere I've read said 10-15 lbs. by this point is average.  So looks like we're doing fine.  As someone who was very fit and healthy (I'm a P.E. teacher), it's very hard to see myself gain so much weight so fast.  So I've removed the scale from my bathroom.  I have to remind myself there's other things to concern myself with now....my body will do what it needs to to take care of the baby (although I'm really looking forward to my first time running again after baby comes! haha).

    ditto.

At 24 weeks I am up 23 pounds.  I do worry a little about what the end number will be, but I figure my eating/exercise habits haven't changed since becoming pregnant (and I was at a steady weight before), so I'm comfortable that everything I'm gaining is pregnancy related.  Don't read the books about how much you "should" gain.  If you doctor never seems concerned, then you shouldn't be either.
