Washing Graco Contempo Deco Highchair

Has anyone put the leatherette high chair cover from the Graco Contempo Deco high chair in the washing machine?  It says "wipe clean with damp cloth" but ours needs way more cleaning than that!  I'm worried that the leatherette part might be ruined if I put it in the washing machine.  Any experience with this or advice?

    I put it in the washer. I don't put it in the dryer though.
