Floor Steamers?

Does anyone have a floor steamer?  If so, which one and do you love it/hate it?

I would like to get one to clean our hardwoods and kitchen floor.  Especially once LO is crawling around on it I would like to be able to sanitize it without using chemicals.

 Thanks!

Re: Floor Steamers?

  • We just bought the $50 Shark, really simple small little steamer and I love it. It works awesome and I wasn't expecting much for such a small cheap thing.  It got good reviews and I'm giving it one too!

  • I have the Shark Vac Then Steam. It's more than just the steamer, but I think the vac is my favorite part! I have a dog and cat whp both shed TONS. I used to use a swiffer vac and then the wetjet. I thought those did a pretty good job, but got the Shark when, like you, I decided I wanted a chemical free way to clean my floors. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing!!! The vac part works awesome, picking up everything from dust and pet hair to small stones (we have a gravel driveway) with ease! I never have to worry about the battery running low and losing power, which I love! The steamer works great and I love that the florrs are dry almost instantly, so I don't have to worry about keeping DH or DS or the dog from tracking on them while they dry. Highlt recommend it! It's awesome!!!

  • I have a shark and I love it. It works great and the cord is really long! Keeps you from having to keep moving the plug around so much.

  • We have a Haan steam mop and I love it!  Several of my friends/family have had sharks and prefer the Haan.

Can you be specific about why the Haan is better? I hate recommending things if I know something better is out there.

  • I have the Shark and love it.  I know there are a few different models, not sure which mine is. But it heats up in the blink of an eye, a tiny bit of water goes a LONG way, the cord is super long, the pads are machine washable...LOVE! And my entire first floor is hardwood and tile FYI.

  • I bought one a month before I moved and used it on my tiles and loved it, but now my new house has all laminate Pergo flooring.  Steam mops damage laminate flooring so I can't even use it anymore:(  Are they ok to use on hardwood or does the steam cause water damage?

  • Thanks for all the input, ladies.  I saw the infomercial (I'm not ashamed) for the Shark awhile ago and wanted it.  It just seems so practical now.  When I looked up some reviews, many were not positive, so I wanted to hear what you guys had to say.

CalMom asked about specifics comparing different brands.  I found this review which is pretty intense and compares a few different brands.

They're ok to use on hardwoods as long as they don't leave puddles of water.  I have a Haan, and I like it, but I'm not in love with it.  It does leave some water residue sometimes, and it does streak sometimes.

I swear by my swiffer vacs - I have one upstairs in the laundry room and one downstairs (which is mostly hardwood).  I use it almost daily and have worn out more than one battery.

I recently purchased the new Libman spray mop thing for quick spill clean-ups and whatnot (I don't want to haul out the Haan if I'm not doing all of the floors), and I really like it.  It tends to streak some, but if I'm just cleaning up a spill in the kitchen, it doesn't really matter.  Like the Haan, it also has machine washable pads (and you can buy extras if you're lazy like me and might not get to washing the pad right away)

  • We have the Haan SI-35 Steam Mop and I LOVE it!  I wanted one that not only cleaned the floors, but actually sanitized as well and in order for it to be considered a sanitizer it needs to reach at least 212 degrees F, which this one does.  Shark does not.

It doesn't use any harsh chemicals, only water.  We got ours from Macy's with some leftover wedding gift cards, but you can also get it from Bed Bath & Beyond and use the 20% coupon. HTH!
