Polypectomy questions (ticker warning)

Hi Ladies -

I posted on secondary IF, but I think that board is not quite as active as this one.  Hopefully you don't mind my posting here.  During my saline sonogram last week my RE discoved that my ute is full of polyps.  He said I will have to get them all removed before starting the process for #2.  We are planning to do the polypectomy next month.

Has anyone here had this procedure?  If so, how did you feel afterwards?  I planned on taking the day of off and working from home for a day or two.  Also, how soon after were you able to start cycling again?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Polypectomy questions (ticker warning)

  • I have had one polyp removed.  It was done at the same time as a cyst aspiration.  The anesthesia made me really drowsy the day of the procedure.  I had some pain/cramping the next day, but it wasn't too bad.  I started an IVF cycle a few weeks after the procedure was completed.

  • My doctor found a polyp during my sonogram during my first IVF attempt.  She did a hysteroscopy/D&C to clean out the uterine lining.  I had general anesthesia, and the whole thing was easy and pretty painless.  I was home before noon, slept most of the day due to residual effects of the anesthesia, but was back at work the next day.  I felt a little groggy the first half of the day, but felt fine otherwise.  I don't think I even had to take anything for pain, not even over-the-counter meds.

My doctor made me wait an extra cycle so that the uterine lining could heal/build itself back up, and I am now on BCPs again for attempt #2, slated to start stimming on 8/31 if all goes as planned.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.  The worst part, in my opinion, is the delay to the process.  Good luck!

  • I had an in office attempted hysteroscopy, which they weren't able to complete because of some issues with my cervix.  I felt pretty crappy afterword, with a migraine like headache, and slept most of the day (it may have had something to do with stress).  I then did it in the hospital.  The day itself was fine, despite some pre-procedure anxiety.  I was pretty uncomfortable for about 3 days, but was better each day.  One thing I found (which may be a little bit TMI), was that going to the bathroom before I really had to go, really helped the pain.  that and some tylenol.

I started a natural cycle that month, and an oral med cycle the following one.

     Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone - very helpful answers.

  • I had several large polyps removed. I took of the next day and then went back to work. I teach first grade so I never sit and am constantly on the move. I was uncomfortable and it showed.that weekend I was able to relax and I felt better the next week . My experience is that other ppl who had one polyp removed healed very quickly where as I needed a lot more time. But if I were able to sit at my job I would have been ok. I was able to cycle after A.F. Came.

Thanks.  I think since I had a lot of them that my experience will probably be closer to yours.

Also, I had to comment on your photo.  That face makes me want to reach through the screen and kiss it!  I had a boxer growing up and she was an absolute gem (and a bit of a terror!).
