I'm constantly in awe, amazed, and shocked by DS's vocabulary. He can say well over 250 words, many 2-5 word phrases/sentences, and count to 10. He also recognizes the difference between numbers and letters and will say "number" or "ABC" (for letters).
When he counts to ten I start with 1 and he says 2, I say 3, he says 4 etc. all the way to ten. Or I will count to 3 and then he takes over and says 4, 5, 6,7, 8, 9, 10.
Holy Cow! If he can do this at 19 months how will I keep up...
Re: AW- DS's extensive vocabulary
I love her artwork in your siggy picture.
L only makes lines "wines" according to him lol.
So your 19 month old drew those pictures?

I write down every new word in his baby book. I have since stoppe counting because he can repeat almost every word we say.

Have you ever seen "My Kid Could Paint That"?
So your child can do that but you can't use the right "your/you're" in your screen name. Ugh.
Whatever, I'll say it. I find this incredibly difficult to believe. Someone call mother-effing Mensa.
Oh, and you spelled 'your' wrong, OP.
Are we talking about Rembrandt or Shakespeare?
I was referring to Shakespeare, but those eyes are suspiciously symmetrical, aren't they?
I made an AW post because I wanted to share his accomplishments! I don't tell our family or friends these things because they have kids close to DS's age and constantly make comment about what all DS can say and that their LO's aren't saying/doing near as much. This is the only place I share this info besides with Lo's grandparents.
And yes, he does say all of these words and use them correctly. Like if he hears an airplane he says "air-pane" and points to the sky or looks up. He talks a lot. I am vey proud and I mad a post to share because I am so proud.
Yes, considering all of the 3 year olds I know are still perfecting the squiggle I am
it.
Don't delete your siggy!
I honestly don't find the doodles to be unbelievable. They're sweet -- you should keep them.
They are great and you should be proud to show them.
I don't think you need to feel defensive. You didn't create a post to brag about your daughter's art work and you didn't point it out either. It's ok to be proud of the things that your child can accomplish and displaying something like that in your siggy is a nice way to go about it, IMO.
I have to say though that I'm a bit jealous.. I'm terrible about doing art work with Tegan because she'll color/scribble for about 5 minutes and then she's done. Plus, all she really does is just scribble on the page, she doesn't create anything that looks like shapes or actual objects. I'm sure she's probably in the majority of what most 20 month olds can do, whereas your DD is in the minority. It's awesome, she'll most likely have a true talent in art/drawing.
Okay, I might be dumber than your 19 month old. What does "oso" and "wal" mean?
Oso as in Special Agent Oso and Wall... my keyboard is acting up and missing letters. I just didnt catch that one.
Oh no! It makes me sad that you took those drawings off of your sig. They were completely cool! I would have put them on, too (if I did the sig. thing)!
Go Phils!!
I don't know WHY I opened this.
bleh.
I don't think it was you who was being flamed. The OP was awfully braggy. Seriously, who counts after about ten words? You just responded to a post and someone commented on your siggy, nothing wrong with that. I would have liked to see the doodles, too. It sounds like they were really cute.
I wrote an AW post to brag about DS... which you could tell before even opening the post. Obviously, I keep track of the words DS says in his babybook.
I see posts/pictures/comments on here all the time that annoy me or make me want to gag and I am a respectful adult about it.
I am amazed by what DS does daily. I am a proud momma who shares this kind of stuff on here.
Maybe I just read all of the posts wrong, but the way I took it, no one was flaming you or saying that you were bragging. I thought they were saying that the OP was bragging about the 250 words and that her kid talking that much was hard to believe. But maybe I misunderstood.
This exactly. Not only is the claim that her kids knows 250+ words hard to believe but she decided to post this in a thread where a mother was concerned about her child not speaking enough. Pretty much, "well you should feel super bad because my unsually smart child can recite the constitution." Then she posted it AGAIN in a whole new thread so anybody who didn't happen to see it in the original thread could see it here. Kind of inconsiderate and rude.

This exactly. Each child will develop differently. Some will need a little help now some will need it later in life. My pediatrician told me that studies prove that early language development does not mean a child will do better in school later. And I work in a childrens hospital and I have never met a child that age that says that many words... nor at my daughters daycare.
Like a PSA posted above, it can sometimes be an indicator of a neurological problem. Obviously hoping that's not the case for anyone's child, but any time your child is outside of the "norm" (whether he/she is way ahead or behind the curve) it's worth checking out with the pediatrician.
Big deal. My kid knows over 300 words, speaks clearly in 5 word sentences, can recite the alphabet and knows over half the letters by sight. Oh, and he can also count to 20.
But I'm not bragging.
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
Consider yourself the douche master then because I recall you posting not so long ago about your kids word count as well.
It's not remotely close to 250. I picture you sitting there with charts and spreadsheets, tracking progress.
