Hello! We are about to become foster parents, for kids 0-4. We have registered for a lot of the basic infant items, but I wondered if you have suggestions of things you love for 2-4 year olds?

Or, if you were going to a shower for foster parents, what would you bring?

Also--we are not a big TV family, but want to have a few movies on hand with "safe" themes (no family, separation, etc.) to help with the transition. We have a Dora one and an Elmo one. Any other ones or full-length movies you suggest?

I have boys and these are played with daily. Balls, water table, trucks, mega bloks. crayons, markers, play do.

We only have a few movies. Cars and Horton Hears a Who are the hits here.

We're not big on TV and we all (including DD) looooove the documentary Babies. It follows four babies in San Francisco, Mongolia, Africa and Japan and shows them playing, nursing, sleeping, learning and just being babies. Really heart-warming and well done.

DD also likes the Backyardigans.

As for necessary items, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. That's an age at which kids start expressing preferences for certain kinds of activities/toys. I think having a lot of crayons, coloring books and construction paper is probably a good idea and then just waiting to see what the kids' personalities are like. DD got really into imaginative play around 2 and loved "cooking," playing "yoga" and taking care of her dolls.

Some little people fisher price toys may be good! My son loves cars and trucks of all shapes and sizes. We aren't big into tv either, but my son loves Elmo and Sesame Street. Good luck it is a great thing you are doing!
