Toddlers: 24 Months+

Do you have a rail on your toddler's bed?

We have a Munire crib that converts to a toddler bed.  They sell a rail but we didn't purchase it - we figured we could get a rail if needed.  However, I am thinking that when we convert it, he'll be so low to the ground that he wouldn't need a rail.  Now as I'm typing this I realize that even though he'd roll out onto the ground a few inches below and probably wouldn't hurt himself - he'd probably scare/startle himself.

So in conclusion to my thinking out loud - do you have a rail?  If yes, the one that came with the crib or one purchased separately?

Thanks!

  • We did purchase the rail for DS's crib but we are using the crib for the baby and never converted it. DS got a twin bed, with double rails, mainly because the twin bed is really high (it has a trundle bed underneath).

  • we have the little white Delta toddler bed that you can get at Target (the stupid crib company stopped making our toddler rails for our cribs before we needed them - and the crib can't convert without it)... and yes it has a little rail.  It only goes a little less than half way down the bed from the top.  I'm not really sure what good it is doing because if they roll out then they are just going to hit their heads.  It doesn't hold their body in.

I wouldn't worry about not having a rail... you could always try it and if he kept rolling out then you can always just get one of the mesh ones that will fit.

  • Yes, we have one. It's an IKEA bed and the rail came with it. DD moves around a lot in her sleep and has actually managed to roll off of those inflatable floor mattresses (startling herself and waking us all up in the middle of the night), so it seems necessary at this point.

  • We have a Munire too and purchased the rail seperately.  We used it for the first 8 monthish and just took it off last week.  She hasn't rolled off yet.  I'm assuming ours are about the same height off the ground, and I've always thought the same thing, that it wasn't a far drop.  GL!

  • We never had a rail for DS's toddler bed.  It was so close to the floor.  He has only dallen out once - maybe - I went in and he was sleeping on the floor.  He moves alot in his sleep but doesn't seem to fall off.

  • We used the rail for about 10 months and then took it off. She still falls out of bed on occasion but hasn't hurt herself or complained.

  • DD is in a twin bed and we bought a rail for it, as she is moving all over the bed. The bed isn't very high but obviously we don't want her to wake up falling out of bed.

  • We used a rail for 1 month while her crib was converted to toddler bed. Once we actually bought a toddler bed we stopped using the rail. She has fallen out a couple times but it is so low to the ground that it hasn't been a huge deal.
