Best Lotion for Baby's Eczema?

I've been using Baby Aveeno, followed by Aquaphor for Jackson's dry skin but I'm wondering if there is something anyone else has found to work better?

Re: Best Lotion for Baby's Eczema?

  • My pedi said Aquaphor won't work because it is water-based.  He said to use a 1% hydrocortisone cream.  We switched and it worked great!

  • Awesome!  What do you use just for general, daily moisturizing for the kids?

  • I think Eucern lotion is good for daily use.
  • I used just the regular J&J - it seriously took us about 2 years to go through all the stuff we got from my shower with DS lol.  I didn't put it on their faces though

Now we use Aveeno or really, whatever is on sale.

  • Both DD#2 & 3 have it. I use aveeno wash in the shower on them and then use aveeno lotion after but on days when it gets bad, they get the aveeno oatmeal bath and then eucerin lotion or hydrocortisone.

  • I use a Cetaphil cleanser to wash and the Cetaphil cream for lotion. I generally just wash her hair with J&J because that is what her brother uses.

  • We use the California Baby Calendula cream.

  • I went ahead and ordered the Eucerin Calming Creme to try.  I bathe him every other night now so I'll continue with that.  I have his well-check tomorrow and hopefully will get some more suggestions then.  Definitely time to go back to the free and clear detergent - His eczema had cleared up for several months and I thought maybe it had gone away but it's flaring up these past couple of weeks.  Thanks for all of the suggestions.

  • The magic for us was Eucerin's Daily Moisture (I think that's the name of the specific one, but it IS Eucerin) in the morning and after bath before bed. At night, we also put Vaseline on top of the Eucerin. For bad patches we put a bit of the prescription cream we got from the pedi.

  • According to my dermatologist, you want creams not lotions. Creams you have to dig out of the jar, lotions has a pump. Lotions contain alcohol and tends to be more drying, thus defeating the purpose of putting on lotion in the first place. She also suggested that you wash the skin every other day.

I am finding this to be very true with the Baby Aveeno pump we've been using.  It doesn't seem to moisturize well, at all... at least not for "problem" skin.

  • Check with the pedi about bathing. The water can actually remoiturize dry skin (its the soap that can cause drying). We use soap on my DD every other night, but we put her in a lukewarm bath nightly and moisturize her immediatley after she gets out. It's made a huge difference in helping her skin. Also, if your LO is allergic to something that is coming in contact with the skin (e.g. pet dander), then the bath will help to wash the irritant off.

We were using Eucerin cream, but switched to CeraVel at her pedi's recommendation. It works a lot better! Her skin is actually becoming baby soft again!

  • Eucerin

sn: my LO has the same swimsuit, too cute!:)

  • I use Little Twig Unscented Lotion. It's organic and is one of the purest baby lotions out there. It's the only one that helped with DD1's excema. I buy it at Wegmans.

This!  CJ's BUTTer comes in jars or sticks, and is fabulous for diaper rash and eczema.  The scents are amazing.

  • I second the Calendula cream from California baby. It's awesome stuff. I wish had it when my oldest son was little.

  • You've got a lot of great recs for lotions and creams.  It's not a cream or lotion, but I love Halo ComfortLuxe jammies.  [https://www.halocomfortluxe.com/]  The fabric is so soft and breathable and helps regulate LO's body temp.  Plus was awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

  • My daughter has eczema and the Aveeno lotion/bath soap didn't really do anything for her. What worked for us (other than using hydrocortizone cream on the bad breakouts) was California Baby calendula cream. They also have a shampoo/body wash that works wonders on her scalp and skin. She's had far fewer breakouts since using this stuff. It's kind of pricey, but a little bit goes a long way for us.
