Success after IF

What size diaper? I can't believe I need to ask...

OK, so we're still relatively new to disposable diapering, so forgive the stupid question :)

We're currently using Earth's Best for daytime and Sam is in a size 4. My subscribe-and-save order is getting ready to ship, and I'm considering sizing up to a 5, but it seems strange given the weight chart for the dipes, which says 23-37 pounds or something for size 4, and 27 pounds+ for size 5.

Sam is tall - 33.5 inches I think (75%), and just over 25 pounds (35%).  So long and lean. The size 4s just seem small, though they are performing well. Since the order occurs only every 2 months though, I don't want cases of dipes that are too small.

Then there is the question of overnights.  We're using Huggies O/N diapers now and the size 4s seem fine - I think we can get away with another two months of those.

SO... what size did/does your 18-20 month toddler wear?  Is sizing up silly at this point?

  • E is still firmly in a size 4, but we use Pamper's Cruisers and I think the weight limit goes into the 30lbs...We also use Huggies O/N and we went up to a size 5 based on lots of SAIF advice. She is almost Sam's exact stats!!

My girls are 24 lbs and we just moved to 5s.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • Thanks! I don't know where the companies get those weight recs, because they are all over the map. Even the Huggies website says that size 5s are for kids "ages 2 and up" and I am thinking that my kid must be a monster, or, I don't know how to diaper :)

  • DS is almost 25 pounds and 32.5 inches and he's in size 4s, both daytime and overnight (but he's not a heavy wetter overnight).

ETA: I've also tried a package or two of size 5s here and there and they work just fine with no leaks, I just have to attach 'em a little tighter around his waist.

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • When we use disposables we use size 3s or 4s.  DD is 24 pounds and 34 inches...  So pretty much I think you just use whatever works.  When she's in size 4s they are super long on her and look sort of ridiculous to me but I think it's just the difference between sposies and cloth...or at least I hope I'm not putting her in too small dipes the rest of the time.

  • Brady is currently the same height as Sam but is a little heavier.  He has been in size 5s (up & up) for months even though he just recently reached the bottom weight limit marked on the box (27 lbs).  I switched to size 5s when we had a few blowouts in his size 4s.
  • Aaron was still in a 4 at that age and up until about 2.5.  I switched him at about 28 lbs and 35".  He was in 5's for about a month before we started PT.  Now he wears 5's at night.

  • Dillon is a little older then Sam, but small for his age. I still put him in a 5. He tends to leak in the 4's even though they technically fit him.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • DD is in a size 5....size 6 are a bit big, but they work too. Let me just say that DD is also around 34" tall and probably around 28 lbs.

  • Alana is squatter than Sam (95th% for weight and 60th% for height) and we've been in size 5's, both daytime and overnight, for, oh, probably 3-4 months now.
  • I'm late to this one but I will say that my experience with Earth's Best is that they run small.  Kevin is still well within the weight limits for size one but the diapers are starting to leave red marks on his thighs so we're moving along to size two.  I have a whole S&S shipment to send back of the size one's.
