If I hear this ONE MORE time...

I'm going to burst a blood vessel.

"Oh, you're going to have such a big baby!!" (from my OB office) Apparently, little man is measuring "big" (how the HELL can they tell for sure?!), almost 3 weeks ahead, and since my little girl was 8lbs 7oz they fear I'm going to deliver a 10lb baby and want to INDUCE me at 39weeks.... thoughts?

I just think they're being lazy and want to get rid of their patient load, lol. But hey what do I know? It'd be nice to have a SCHEDULED induction for planning purposes.... but I'm torn.....

I'm tired of hearing how "big" he's gonna be....but then again, my pelvic bone would SURE appreciate an early delivery lol.

I keep hearing how "yea, my OB told me that too... and my baby was only 6-7lbs!!!" Ugh... decisions decisions :

  • Just keep in mind that the U/S is not accurate at predicting the actual weight.  It can be off by as much as 8lbs.

I say let your LO come on his terms, and your body will handle whether it can deliver him or not!  I wouldn't let a doctor induce me out of convenience.

  • Measurements of the baby are very inaccurate.

  • They cant make you do anything you arent comforortable with. Dont want to be induced.. say no. My DD was almost 8lbs three full weeks early.. She came naturally. My ob will offer inductions in the 39th week.. however I would acxept shshould I reach that point. But my body took to being induced rreal well last time (I wasnt contracting withh dd so I needed pit etc) Its a personal choice. Any outside measurements can be off.. be it palpation u/s or tape measure..
  • I won't induce unless medically necessary. "They" say your body won't let your baby grow too big for you to deliver...

  • Let you baby come when they are good & ready. I'm anti-induction prior to 40/41 weeks...

  • I was told repeatedly that I was going to have a tiny, tiny baby. I measured small the whole pregnancy. DS was born a week early, and he was just under 9 lbs. Tiny my ass.

  • It really depends on what you are comfortable with.  If an induction at 39 weeks doesn't bother you, go for it.  If it does, talk to your doctor about waiting it out until 40 or 41 weeks.  Personally, I wouldn't go past 41 weeks whether they told me LO was big or not.  Also, if my doctor gave me the option to be induced at 39 weeks I would take it.

  • I'm personally against inducing unless medically necessary and I don't think size one of those reasons. I'm currently measuring two weeks ahead and my doctor thinks I'm on target to birth a 8-9 pound baby. He also mentioned that it would be nice to get her out around week 39. I didn't really say anything and figured I would deal with that when the time comes, but I plan to let my little girl cook as long as she wants. After 41 weeks, I'll start discussing induction due to safety reasons, but not before that.

  • I actually switched OB's at 20 weeks, because I was soooo sick of hearing this.  My DS was born 8lb 2oz.  Pretty average, but they kept saying how big he was and how this one would be huge.  I knew that I would be pressured to do an early induction if I stayed there and I was not about to have that. Last appointment my LO was actually measuring a bit small, so much for a huge baby!

I have the same attitude! Maybe tomorrow at my OB appointment I'll talk with them about it...
