Trying to Get Pregnant

BFN: the ONLY silver lining

I'm usually one to look for silver linings in things, so is it sad that after the disappointment of a BFN this morning, my first thought was "I'm having wine as soon as my period comes?"

I can't decide if I'm in the "drink 'til it's pink" category or the "abstain altogether during 2WW". Which team are you all on? I'm overly paranoid with most things, so I've been abstaining, but I don't even know if it REALLY matters. I read in a few places that drinking alcohol can prevent implantation. Thoughts, and no judgments either way!

  • I think most girls on the board are on team "drink til it's pink."  Many of them would say, though, that they don't get wasted and drink only moderately. There are some ladies here that treat their bodies as though they are already pregnant at all times, however, and don't drink at all.

The baby doesn't share blood with you until 6 weeks. A glass of wine or two in the 2WW isn't going to hurt.

  • Sorry about your BFN.

I'm in the drink til it's pink category. A drink here and there is fine IMO. I wouldn't go tie one on...then again I don't do that anymore anyway. lol

You don't share blood until around 6wks along anyway.

With DS, I had implantation spotting. I thought it was the start of AF so I went out and had a couple of FML drinks. Then the spotting stopped and  2 days after that I got my BFP.

  • I'm also in the "drink 'til it's pink" category.  However, I do try to tone it down a little during the 2WW.  I don't drink much to begin with, under normal circumstances I might enjoy a beer with dinner a few times per week, two if I'm feeling daring, and I never drink to the point where I'm drunk.

When AF showed up last week though, I treated myself to two beers that night ;o).

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ladies! I've been kind of a lurker the past few months as I've been charting, and I think y'all are a very cool group of women. Looking forward to getting to know you all better and sharing more thoughts and experiences!

  • I am not drinking at all after the first week of my cycle.  My husband is a doctor and thinks that there hasn't been enough data to truly rule out the possibility of harm.  That being said, if I wasn't married to somebody as risk-averse as my husband I'd probably be in the drink til its pink category.  Also, if this TTC thing goes on for a substantial amount of time I can bet you that I'll be sipping the Chardonnay in the 2wws.

Yes  After a year of TTC, I'd be a grumpy b!tch if I were acting like I was pregnant all the time.  Sometimes you need a glass of wine, beer, or a nice caffeinated beverage... and by 'sometimes' I mean 'on a regular basis.'  (I'm not a lush mind you, but yes, I'll have a glass or two of wine or beer a couple times a week.)

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

  • When we first started TTC a few months ago, I was trying to abstain. However, we're on cycle three and I'm now drinking till it's pink. I don't drink that much to begin with, so I figured a glass or two every so often won't hurt. GL!

  • Like most everybody else here, I'll have the occasional drink during the 2WW, but that glass or 2 of guilt-free wine on CD1 is a nice perk for an otherwise disappointing day!

  • Haha. I was abstaining from alcohol during the 2WW, which turned into the 3WW. So when AF finally arrived yesterday, my first thought was, "Oh thank God I can have a couple of beers this weekend." I'll probably continue to drink caffeine in moderation even during the 2WW, but not alcohol. Just a personal thing.

Me too.  I'll have 2 drinks/day at most and not everyday.

I'm in this boat, when we first started I passed on the booze and caffeine.  But got frustrated with the first few BFN and had some people ask if I was KU, which got old fast.  So I'm enjoying the wine and lattes now.

  • I don't drink and I try to stay as far as possible from caffeine (Not for TCC reasons), but I feel like it all depends whether or not you would feel guilty if you got your BFP that month.  If you can do it and know in your heart that it won't affect LO then a drink or two at a wedding wouldn't hurt.  But if you feel like you would worry for the next 9 months it's probably best that you stay away so that you can enjoy your BFP to the fullest without worry of guilt.
