I'm Bored. FFFC time?

Here's mine: I hate birthday cards. I hate spending money on something that the other person is likely to only read once (as I do) and then throw it away. Why are the good ones like $4.99?? I don't get it. My mom will spend hours in a Hallmark store reading all the cards and choosing the one that best fits the person she is shopping for. Me, I go to the .99 card section and look for about 2.5 seconds for the least dumb looking one there.

DH gave me a card for my birthday that said something nice in it like "looking forward to celebrating a lifetime of birthdays with you". I should have thought it was sweet, but instead, I turned it over, saw he paid nearly $5 for it and rolled my eyes.

Your turn!

  • I think my friend M is a B because she doesn't like birthday cards.  Ha!

    Umm... let's see....

My FFFC is that I wish I could give my dogs to a family member because I just can't handle them and DD.  They jump on visitors, bark at anything, etc.  I'm not exercising them the way I should be because I can't handle both of them on a walk at once because they pull.  I'd never get rid of them, but I'd love it for a family member to volunteer to give them a great home.  I feel guilty because they were my first babies.

My mom and her girlfriends find really good funny/mean cards and sign them on a post it, so they can recycle the cards!

So weird! I just got off the phone with a friend telling her that dogs are harder than a baby! I love my furry babies but they are so needy! The barking sucks too, I have huge signs on our front door "Do not knock or ring" in red!

Ha! I mean, I guess I would just rather call or text or give someone a hug and say Happy Birthday (or nice baby shower or whatever, this is not really limited to birthdays).

  • I'm annoyed because we have a friend and her family staying with us tonight because their a/c went out and they can't get it fixed til tomorrow.  I'm glad we can help out, but it's been a long week and I just want to go home and relax, not have to entertain.

I'm with you, I don't see the point in cards.  I've stopped sending them to my parents, even.  DH and I have never exchanged cards.  When Jakob goes to a bday party, we write To and From on a scrap of wrapping paper and tape it to the box.

My mom hates it though!  She's always nagging me for not sending a card.  They just shook their heads when I sent my dad his 60th Day present, I didn't stick a card in the box.  I guess I could have at least written Happy Birthday! something in there, but seriously wasn't the present itself proof enough that I remembered?

I was just being funny.  I totally agree.  I never attribute the writing inside of a car to the giver-- it was written by someone who doesn't know me.  Why do I care about that?  And they are SO EXPENSIVE!

Ugh, yes! My mom has been hounding me this week to send a thank you note to my uncle for sending me a birthday card. I mean, I already spoke to him on the phone and now I have to send him a thank you card for sending me a birthday card? Then what, he sends me a thank you card for my thank you card? When does it end???

  • Here's another....s/o from the card thing.

I hate when people get upset for being forgotten.  My mom had surgery the other day and I forgot.  Oops.  But in my defense, it was a minor thing done outpatient and she had only mentioned the date once!  I had just talked to her a few days before, why didn't she mention it?

And I hate surprise parties.  I hate surprises in general but parties are the worst.  The whole idea is to make someone sad, thinking that nobody gives a crap about their birthday.  You let them go all day thinking nothing special is going to happen but then at the last minute, jump out and say Ha Ha We got you!!!  What's the point?  Half the fun of an event is looking forward to it happening.  A surprise party completely denies you of that.

    Duuuude, I know this :)

  • My 2 little kids have been *awful* this week.  The kind of awful that I feel I need to apologize to every single person they've come in contact with.  They've chewed me up and spit me out for 4 days in a row.  I had enough this morning, yelled at both of them and put them in separate rooms.  15 minutes later they are both asleep.  It's lunch time and I have zero intentions of waking them up and I'm giving up on a few errands I needed to run today.  The quiet is worth it even though they will be cranky and starving when they wake up.  And I'm looking forward to traveling for work this weekend so I can have more quiet time away....sigh.
  • michelle: i totally agree about the cards! i try to buy a box of blank cards(super discounted) and use those for everything. for kids gifts? i just write to and from on the box. i gotta add that i HATE spending $$ on wrapping stuff. i use stuff i've recycled or wrap with the comics.

LLCG: we are feeling the same way about our dog! she needs so much more excercise and i just can't go outside. my FIL is going to take her part time when #2 is born and dh and i are relieved. we feel guilty, but relieved.

mine: i'm sick of being pregnant. sick of it. i'm not ungrateful for being able to have a 2nd baby, but i feel like i could hurt someone right now!

oh and i just ate 5 frosted sugar cookies. i'm going to hide the box so i don't hear crap from dh.  i don't wanna hear it!

This is me.  I love cards!  My family has always been into cards.  My grandma still sends me cards for every holiday for which they are made and just because. To this day, I still look forward to receiving their cards.

My FFFC, I love breastfeeding, but wish DS would have taken to a bottle.  He is still up numerous times overnight and I'm exhausted!  I'd love to have the option of letting my MIL take care of DS overnight just so I could get one full night of sleep!!!

I learned a new vocab word today!

In the past two weeks I have...shown up on the wrong day for a dr. appt, missed a meeting, forgotten my phone number (that i've had for years) on a work voicemail, overslept for a work thing, and completely forgotten about my daughter's music class last Sat.  I have officially lost it.

  • michelleaxo - unless it's for a reeeeallly good reason - like playing god-awful annoying music, i won't spend more than .99 on a card. i'm with ya

llcg - me too :( my dogs are driving me bat$hit insane. most of my family can't even stand them since we had the baby - their barking has gotten so out of control loud. a couple of nights ago, DH let them out and they not only woke up DD, but the baby next door, we had crying in stereo. it makes me feel terrible. thankfully my neighbor used to have doxies too (and has a couple of barkers of her own) and is somewhat sympathetic (at least for now)... we've tried everything we can and pretty much to the point of having to get bark collars which makes me so sad, but it's really my last hope at this point.

my fffc? i have baby rabies. bad. i never thought that could ever happen to me again. and that's with DD waking up 2 hours earlier than normal - at 5, every morning this week.

  • I love L a ton, but I was so happy (for both of us) that he was able to go to daycare for 2 days so I could "be alone" in my new classroom trying to figure things out and how to make it work.

Also, I may have eaten almost an entire bag on funions (sp?) in the past 24 hours.  It's not my fault--Tiny was craving them.

  • My kids have been awful this week too. Except unlike Lyndsay's, mine didn't fall asleep. Crying

My ILs are coming for a visit today. I am still in my PJs, and my house is still messy. Since my husband is unconcerned about the state of the house, I refuse to work myself into a frenzy over it. They don't like me anyway, so I've decided that a black mark against me for house-keeping isn't the end of the world. I will take a shower and get dressed and make the kids put clothes on though. I do have some standards.

I can't freaking wait for school to start. I am counting down the days until kindergarten.

When it was announced that "All My Children" was being canceled, I started watching it again. Embarrassed I love me some Erica Kane.

  • I really liked the music associated with "Pumped Up Kicks" but when I realized what the song was about (shooting up up a school), I was pretty much horrified.  I hate that it's so catchy, but I'm sad enough to change the channel regardless.

I have so much going on in my world right now that sometimes it feels crushing.  The school thing is my fault, and it would be tolerable, if it weren't for the other things that have stacked since.

  • I hate spending the $$ on cards too!  I usually make my own cards, but lately, I've been so lazy that I just do the whole "to/from" on a tag and call it good.  I'd rather someone just tell me the greeting so later on down the road, I don't have to have emotional turmoil when I find the card and have to decide whether to toss it or keep it.  Ugh, cards make me crazy.

I had a very naughty dream last night about some other guy.  One of my FB friends.  Shh!

  • Ooh, fun game!  My guess is RK!

My FFFC is that while it would be nice to be able to go out and support my husband tonight in a competition, the childcare thing has been a major pita and I'd really just rather stay home with the kids.

Sad  I'm sorry it's been so hectic.

I went to college and worked 40+ hours a week and I know how stressful that alone can be.  Of course, I also wasn't a wife and mother to a teenager at the time!  I think you're handling things much better than you think you are.  Hang in there and if there are things other people can take off your plate, definitely let them (I say this as someone who hates to ask for help.)

  • My FFFC -

On our way back from Round Rock, I realized that I was traveling during the "witching hour" (i.e. both kiddos hungry and tired, plus a wet baby.)  We were too far from home to wait it out, so I pulled through the McD's drive-thru, got food for me and DS (shameful mother act #1).  Then we pulled in to the parking lot, where I changed DD's diaper in the trunk (shameful mother act #2) and proceeded to get peed on.  I fed her in the front seat with one hand, while a wolfed down a QP w/cheese from the other. When we both finished, I burped her, forgetting a burp cloth, and she cheesed all down my shirt.  So I had to drive home smelling like pee, barf, and Mickey D's.   It was awesome.  Stick out tongue

But the kids were blissfully quiet all the way home! Yes

  • JBB is nice - I just had to go look it up.  :)  I just mentioned RK because they 'talk' all of the time and in Jr. High all the girls had a little crush on him!

AJL, sometimes those stops are so necessary and worth it.  Also, I'd rather change my baby in the back of my van than change her in a nasty bathroom, so don't feel weird about that at all.  Sorry you got covered in so many bodily fluids.  How was the QP?  :)

  • Ha!  I had to go look up who JBB was and while I had a huge crush on him in high school, he's sooo weird and I haven't had any dirty dreams about him since high school.  Embarrassed

RK is awesome.  We had theatre arts together and I adored him.  But he's way too close of a friend (well, he was in HS) for me to think anything dirty about him.  I do think he's pretty cute though, although that glass eye throws me off...

    Any more guesses??

ETA:  AustinAggie--he comments all the freaking time on my updates, it cracks me up!  I hope his wife doesn't think anything of it.  :)

Also AJL, WTF is wrong w/ changing your kid in the trunk??  I do it daily!  If we're out and I've got a wet/dirty kid, I'm changing him in the easiest spot and that's my trunk.  I even keep a thing of wipes and dipes in the trunk for that reason--and a blanket to lie on!

  • I love cards but DH loathes them, so I buy them in bulk (I got 30 cute ones at Costco the other day for $15!) so that he can't really say anything about the cost anymore.

My FFFC: Sometimes I fantasize about drop kicking my cat across the house when he stands outside the baby's door meowing while I'm trying to put said baby down for a nap. And then when I come out, I chase him around the house, just to let him know how pissed at him I am.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I am totally that person that spends forever trying to pick out the perfect card at Hallmark.  But I agree that cards are expensive, so I got the cute box of cards at Costco as well.  I also like to just use blank cards.
DH's parents go to the store together for their anniversary and pick out cards for each other, read them, then put them back. It's totally free :-)

Joyco - that is awesome!  SS  is the spitting image of Jay.

Also, LOVE the idea your DH's parents have for card shopping.  Perfect way to do that whole deal.
