The other day, my friend asked me when would be a good time to throw me a baby shower. And I looked at my calendar and realized....it's going to be a huge pain in the behind. Traditionally, it's held at 8 months, right? 8 months is right around finals time (it's my last semester, so that's a really big deal), and there are holidays on either side of that...I was wondering how you ladies are planning on scheduling yours?

My little goofball born 1/2012
Dates were hard for us too, as the Oct 15 tax deadline is worse for DH than April 15, and our showers are all out of town. Plus, college football is huge in our circle, and DH has season tickets to the Falcons. We settled on Oct 22 and Nov 19.
I know it is bad luck to do it before 24 weeks, and you don't want to do it too late in case LO comes early. Plus, you don't want to be too uncomfortable.
I didn't know about the bad luck thing. I'm superstitious (stupid I know). I'm going to have to do math now on how far I'll be for mine.
I just spoke with my friend who's planning mine, and we decided on the same date! Wanted to be before the big holiday rush. I still need to talk to my husband's friend who wants to plan a shower with his group, and then my family back home. Hmm... this may get a little tricky.
I have a shower every day- or every other day if I'm lazy.
Okay I know it's not what you meant, but I'm not having a shower this time so I wanted to answer ONE of the millions of shower posts. You were the lucky chosen one

BFP 3/16/2011 Chemical Pregnancy 3/20/2011
one of my showers is being thrown by a friend who has season tix to the mizzou games, dh and i have season tix to the razorback games so we had to find a weekend that both teams were away, that limited us GREATLY! which is why that shower is on september 11th lol
We're all huge Gators, so we had to do the same with the dates! It had to be an away game for the Gators, and an away game for the Falcons. Oct 22 is a bye for the Gators, but Nov 19 is Furman. No one is all that upset about missing Furman...lol
I'm not having one (I don't think, maybe a sprinkle) but I'm planning one for my friend and she's due in mid-feb. we're doing hers on Dec 3 because it's after T-day but before the christmas/hanukkah stuff ramps up and before I get to the point where I don't want to get up from the couch unless it's to pee or get more ice cream.
She'll be 30 weeks at that point. you're right though. it's a hectic time of the year to plan a party, that's for sure!!!
Make a pregnancy ticker
Lol. I almost went back and changed my post because that was the first thing I thought of after I saw the headline by itself. I decided not to, thinking "Well, I doubt anyone will notice." I'm kind of glad you did
Anyway...thank you all for your input. It looks like the beginning of November for me, maybe...lol I'm not a very good planner, I've always been a go with the flow kind of person. This baby stuff is testing me...
I likely won't be having one, as this is my third. But I wanted to weigh in:
My mom is a normal mom, offering advice about everything when my sister and I were each planning our weddings, buying houses, picking schools, etc. Pretty much the only thing she had an opinion on when I was pregnant with my first was that I wait until after the baby was born to have a shower. She lost a baby 16 months after I was born -- she had a completely normal, healthy pregnancy, relatively simple labour and delivery, but the baby girl was born with heart abnormalities and died shortly after birth. This was the single worst thing that had happened (and in fact, ever happened since) to her. Like, she had enough to deal with with people asking her a hundred times a day how the new baby was, let alone having to deal with the nursery stuff and baby things that were accumulating. So I don't know if you'd call it "superstition" or what, but my sister and both waited until after our babies were born to have any kind of showers for them. Mind you, we both got the rooms ready for baby -- but I figured no matter what happened, good or terrible, I would be needing a baby room SOMEDAY.
And I get that you have showers to acquire the stuff you think you need, but really? All you need for the first few weeks are diapers, wipes, and a handful of sleepers. The rest is luxury (this from a person who would NEVER have survived without the baby swing/bouncy seat -- but my sister who was going to buy the swing for me anyway just gave it to me before the shower).
Also? Showers are waaaaay better when you can show off your new baby and everyone can tell you how gorgeous they are!
Just something to think about.
