Those whose LO's have had roseola...

How long did the rash last?  And did it happen to spread to LO's legs and look completely different, like big splotches vs. the prickly little bumps all over the trunk?  DD had the rash all over her trunk for the past 2 days and woke up with that gone, but her legs look disgusting!  She also has little patches of redness under her eyes.  I'm bringing her into the pedi this afternoon to have it checked, but just wonderring if this is typical with roseola.

  • Sounds typical to me. DS lucked out and his rash was quite mild, but it did show up in random spots.

  • DS did not have the rash spread to his legs, but his face was a mess.  It lasted for about 4-5 days.

  • From what I was told by my pedi when my son had it and what I read in the AAP guide, the Roseola rash appears only on the trunk of the body. It appears 24 hours after a high fever breaks (my son's was 104.7) and fades within 48 hours.

Now, my DD just had Fifth Disease, which appears all over....face, arms, legs, truck....everywhere and the classic telltale sign is bright red cheeks, which could be what your DD has since you are describing red patches under her eyes.

  • We have been dealing with that as well. I thought it was a reaction to his shots, but turns out it was this. The rashes have been all over him, and they look terrible, he itched like crazy. The dr. gave us some good medicine which thankfully stopped the itching. We have been going through this for almost a week now. They told us it would just have to run its course. GL!
