With DD, 5.5 years ago, my mom just bought a pink-type bear from the hospital gift shop that hung on the door and had this ribbon that you put baby's name/birth date/info. It wasn't very cute, lol, but all she could find.
Since then, I've noticed some really cute things on the doors: diaper wreathes, feather-boa-type wreathes, etc.
Did someone make you something? Do you have nothing yet and hope someone brings something to the hospital for you? Are you making/buying your own?
Re: What are you putting on your hospital door after baby is born?
LOL this. I have never heard of this, nor have seen anyone decorate their door at the hospital in the 8 1/2 days I spent in the hospital having 2 kids. Way cheesy IMO.
DMoney will be a kickass big sister
WHY would one do this?
I never thought about this, but I will now. It's a cute idea. I don't think it's cheesy, but I wouldn't stress over it (it's a crazy enough time already!)
I'm a FTM, but if I had children, I'd ask them to help make something. Maybe you & your 5 year old could do it together as a special project before new LO comes into the picture (and then fill in the birth info afterwards). Then everyone coming to see the baby can also admire the artwork of DD and make a fuss over her too. Just a thought...
It may be an location thing?! My sister and bestfirend are so excited to make something for the door,in fact it was the first thing out of each of their mouths when I told them I was pregnant! It's sort of like getting flowers when the baby is born, but it's much more useful, as it has mini lotions, pacifiers, diapers, toys etc. Sort of like the idea of a diaper cake. It also has the baby's name and length and weight somewhere on it usually!
I don't think it is cheesy at all! I think it is a nice gesture that friends or family do for you in a time of celebration! I wouldn't makemy own though, I think it is supposed to be more a gift to welcome baby!
Go Phils!!
LOL, this too. I have never heard of this, or seen it while I was at the hospital.
Haha this must be a regional thing...EVERYONE does this where I live (Arkansas). With my first, a friend of the family made a beautiful huge ribbon with his name on one of the longer pieces and a rattle and some other things built into it. With this one I will see what someone does as well...usually a family member or friend does this when you go into the hospital around here. We also always decorate mailboxes before the parents/new baby go home with a ribbon or balloons or something else cute. Us southerners love our decorations.
It must be regional. Here they advise against decorating your home after having a baby for safety reasons. People want those newborns and some will stop at nothing to get one.
Go Phils!!
I would never advertise a newborn. Too many nutjobs out there.
I have never put anything on my hospital door before and don't plan on it this time. I really just don't see the need to.
I guess if you are totally bored and want to make something, more power to you
Ha ha!! Funny!!
In my experience, it's usually gift from the family of the mom or dad. One of my friends just had her baby. The new grandma drove 5 hours while my friend was in labor but before the mom left her hometown she stopped at one of the nearby hospitals to pick up one of their diaper wreaths cause it was the one she wanted for her new grandbaby. I definitely wouldn't go that far with it. But something from the hospital's gift shop is usually sufficient.
We were in our room for less than 48 hours and probably saw the door 3 times, so what was on the door was the last thing on my mind.
baby #3 arrived in September 2014...cannot get ticker to work no matter what I try!
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Same here. It's sad that it's come to this, but so true.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Waaaay too many. When I was preg with DS#1, a woman my H had never met before asked him when I was due. He was in our yard and I wasn't with him. His guard instantly went up. He lied about the date and we were so careful about leaving things out that said "Newborn lives here!" I don't even leave DS's baby crack machine thing in his window. There are way too many crazies out there.
Go Phils!!
I'm not planning to decorate my door. Mostly because I'm just not the type, but also because the hospital I worked at as a volunteer used their own door decor (different colored faux roses) to communicate with nurses and staff about what was going on in each room. I don't think they allowed outside items, because they interfered with that system.

DD: 5/22/14 | 9 lb 9 oz, 21.5 in
Awwww... I feel like a lot of people are hating on a perfectly innocent idea/request! If you want to decorate the door, do it! A lot of people where I live do it as well. Here's what I was given (it's currently hanging on the nursery door but my mom says she's scooping it up and bringing it to the hospital when it's time...) It's nice b/c it's something that goes in his room as well.

I agree with the people who say this must be a regional thing because I'm in Texas and almost everyone here has something on their door!! But then again you know how we are in Texas, we like things over the top!! LOL
lol how did I guess this was a Southern thing? Too funny
I have not seen this at our hospital (Northern VA) and definitely won't be the one to start it.
Some hospitals will hang things on the doors of women who had babies born still or passed away shortly after birth.
That is the only time I've ever heard of people hanging things on the doors.
