Hey ladies, I'm looking for a gift (under $40) for my co-worker and his wife who are having their baby tomorrow - They say they've already bought A LOT of stuff, so I'm looking for something people don't usually think about giving.
Following up to the monthly stickers. For my friends who aren't online or FTMs I have given them monthly stickers and they thought it was the cutest thing ever.
That or a "car kit".
Munchkin has the waterproof bags for clothing, then I put in a Wetone pack, small wipe packet, hand sanitizer, a few diapers and a toy for them to keep in their car for emergencies. You can even add a cute onesie for emergency use.
I love pp suggestion of books, or something just for mom and dad. One of the coolest gifts I got at my shower was a pedicure set just for me.
Also, not super original, but if they have a registry I'm sure it's still up, and you can probably find something on there that they may not have gotten yet.

It wasn't a gift (I bought it myself), but I've read great things about the Tooli nightlights. I got the blue/green set and they are great. They are rechargeable and give off just enough light to see the baby at night without putting on bright overhead lights. I got the double set so I could keep one in my room and one in the nursery.
I like the library idea. Mine isn't unusual per se but I think it's nice. I like giving piggy banks. It's a nice touch to a nursery and something LO can use as they start to get older. You have to remember to fill it with one of each coin though before giving; apparently it's good luck!

We haven't used it yet, but according to our friends with babies, the Nosefrieda will be one of our favorite unusual gifts: https://nosefrida.com/. It is definitely a conversation-starter!
My SIL got me a Mommy gift pack and I loved it, it had lots of little gifts and each one had a note attached explaining why it was there. It contained a gift card for a local chinese delivery place (for those nights when it's tough to get dinner on the go), a sleep mask (so I can nap when the baby does), a chocolate bar (because some days you really just need chocolate), some bubblebath and a good book (to remind me to relax and take a moment for myself every once in a while), a tube of under-eye concealer (to help cover the dark circles after long sleepless nights).

I frequently give an "I See Me" personalized book after a child's birth. They do take a few weeks though and you need the child's name. Parents seem to like them and they are not common.
The Putomayo music collection is awesome! They have lullabies and upbeat songs on a variety of albums. They are also from all over the world so they are not super annoying kids voices and the beats are really enjoyable for adults too.

I have a co-worker who is team green, I'm not all about buying green and yellow things (mainly what she has registered for), so I am going to get mom a post-pardum care package- I was so underprepared when I got home from the hospital with my first, had to send DH to the store to get all my feminine products! As of now, I plan on getting pads, tucks pads, nipple cream, Soothies gel pads, a travel size package of tissues, breast milk storage bags, and probably a gift card of some sort, maybe to BRU and say its for after the baby is born so they can add some pink or blue to their color scheme. I'll type up a little note with it all and put it in a cute basket that she can use for the nursery.

I haven't received one, but I would love a knit hat like this always popular owl one:

I also do personalized blankets from Fill In the Blankie, but those are over $40. https://www.fillintheblankie.com/
Personally, the nicest "unusual" gifts I have received so far have been handmade things - knitted blankets and handmade burp cloths.
We got a pink boa wreath with DD's first initial in the middle of it. It will hang on our hospital door and then on her bedroom door at home.
I think it looks really neat and had never thought about one before my SIL gave it to us.
I got a whole bunch of onesies with iron-on's at my shower. And a couple of band onesies special ordered for me.
I really like the piggy bank idea though. I wish I had gotten one!
My mommy friends all swear by the Sophie the Giraffe teether:

This, definitely.
I also got this from a friend. And she just raved about it. I'm looking forward to using it!
