There is a little girl at my school (I'm a elem teacher) named Hazel! That is such a precious old name a little girl. I'm a little in love with it too!
What makes us fall in love with names. Isn't it a strange phenomena? I may hear a name and love it and another person may not react to it at all.
I LOVE Naomi but DH hates it so it'll never make the cut. Current favorites are Sienna or Gemma and Dominick or Alessio.

Please don't use Cohen. It is very controversial and most Jews find it very disrespectful and offensive... as well as ignorant.

My husband has the same initials and middle name as his dad: DRJ, and we'll continue the tradition, though I might try to renegotiate the middle name from Richard to one of my family names beginning with an R. Compromise?

We also like Isla for a girl, but my sister's youngest is Lila, and she is immature enough to throw a fit if I choose a name too close to her 2 year olds.. We both like Inara enough it doesn't really matter..extra points if you can guess the influence of the first names

Cohen is a sacred/blessed last name for the Jewish people. It refers to the highest priestly class of people- actually the only ones who were allowed to pray at the Temple before it was destroyed.
Those with the last name Cohen are higher to G-d and have an important role in Jewish services.
It is not, and should not be used as a first name because people like the way it sounds. It's much more important than that.
No, I've actually never seen that show. LOL Arya is the name of a character in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, and also Game of Thrones, the show on HBO which is based on the series.

While I understand what you are saying, it is not the same thing. Mary is a common name, in fact, to many of my catholic friends they were named Mary to honor the biblical Mary because she is such a blessed/important figure.
Cohen is not a first name and is not in the same category.And I don't know where she lives but if she was to raise her child in a Jewish area or he was to move to a Jewish area people would be shocked to meet someone with this name. Cohen is a sacred LAST NAME. It should not be used by lay people.
While I don't expect people to agree 100% with what I am saying, I think it's important that she knows about the current controversy surrounding the name. As well, I would never want to name my child a name that offended a group of people.. whether or not I knew/was friends with that group of people or not.

Ah, I was going to ask if it was Game of Thrones inspired! It's very pretty, I like it a lot. My brother has actually mentioned a lot of names he likes from G of T....which I find weird, coming from my brother, most guys don't talk about baby names, lol.

I hate the name Cohen, but the bolded quote makes me want to use it.
Jesus is a sacred name and I am not offended when I come across people named it.

In the past we have come up with a list of names and chosen after the birth. For some reason I feel strange naming a baby before I see it. We do not tell people our choices and I think if we are blessed with another baby we will not find out the sex.
Boy: Reed Anthony (thought I like Reid better, dh prefers Reed)

Again, Cohen is a sacred Last Name in YOUR community. You can't tell people what name they can't and can use. Don't get me wrong, my issue is not your beliefs in general or your belief in that name but issue is when you said

Now if you would have said Just an FYI the name Cohen is blah blah blah and is very controversial in the Jewish community etc etc then I wouldn't have said anything. But you came on said DON'T USE THAT NAME. It's not for you to decide. And just like I have an open mind about the name Mary and Jesus as PP pointed out, you should too. And last thing regarding all the controversy on the name Cohen, all articles clearly state that while it surprises the Jewish community, they clearly understand the first name Cohen was not purposely used to disrespect.
I suggest you start researching a lot of names then because you are limiting yourself significantly if you would never want to name your child a name that offended a group of people.
