telling my step daughter the big news?

So my first appointment is in 2 weeks after that we are going to tell our parents & friends the great news. I have a 9 year old step-daughter & she is an only child; she has younger cousins though; any advise on how & when to tell her? I know that she has some concept of time but I kinda wanted to wait until my 2nd tri when I acutally had a bump and there was something more tangable for her to see. Thanks for any pointers you give me Big Smile

    Honestly, I would tell her before you tell your friends and family.  At 9, I think she will totally understand what is going on and could get upset if she's not considered special enough to be one of the first to find out.  Also, I'm finding that with my own kids I need to tell them a little sooner b/c I have some explaining to do.  They know that mom is not acting normal and while I want to wait to tell them until I know there is something to tell them, I don't want to wait too long either. 
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12

    I agree with PP you should tell her once you are feeling assured about th pregnancy, when you are telling others. Nine is definitely old enough to understand!

    thanks you guys!!! we plan to tell both of our families at once; so it will be one big surprise for everyone...now we patiently wait :)
